Getting to the point, basically Jagex has a tendency to say on Reddit that certain complaints are being monitored, and there is no promise of any change.

By itself that is a good plan, when you are referring to new updates, or changes to the economy or damage rates, or anything that might actually need to be monitored to realize the scale of the problem, or most importantly if it even needs fixed.

That's the implication of monitoring, it might not even need to be fixed. Considering the history, and the reality that we needed a survey to point out BUGS that should be fixed it's a concern that something important WON'T be fixed. They usually do, but it's a cause for concern. And it's an immediate concern.

In those specific cases the word monitor should not be used. I know they got me in the past, I didn't realize at the time the Jmod on Reddit was CM. They were making a statement on behalf of the company, implying that an issue might not be fixed.

For a lot of things it's enough to just know that Jagex is aware. Of course, one would expect a follow up to confirm the intent, but that's enough to de-escalate and make it NOT an immediate concern.

I don't know the context, as I rarely use Reddit, but I would assume they're saying this to be like "hey, we hear you, just because we haven't officially responded doesn't mean we aren't looking into this". That's how I'd interpret it. They just want to get a broader picture first. Bob says:
A bank PIN will keep your items secure.
Always check the second trade screen.
Never trade in the Wilderness!
Keep your computer keylogger-free and virus scanned.
Never give your password out to anyone.

It's specifically the word monitor. They went on to explain in several posts that the devs are looking into it, without any promises.

I'm just saying this from my POV because they might not fully understand why some people get extra upset.

This particular topic didn't set me off, but I can observe.

To rephrase it a bit, when you say that a complaint is being monitored, it is downplaying the complaint. Possibly even dismissing it. That causes a sense of urgency, and now the player is officially triggered. It can take several months to undo the damage.

I'm saying they should use "monitor" specifically for things like drop rates, damage, economy. Things that are more general in nature. Things that might possibly be OK given time.

In comparison, using it for obvious disasters is a terrible idea.
