Myself and many others in the community are not happy about the new shared cooldown beteween concentrated blast and sonic wave.

At first it may not sound like a huge deal because wrack got an upgrade at the same time, however, myself and many other long-time mage users beg to differ.

This new shared cooldown completely disrupts the flow of mage rotations, leaving us with too few basic abilities to fill in the gaps in our rotation.

The only options you really have for basics now, that still benefit from the effects of sunshine, are concentrated blast, dragonbreath, wrack, chain, and tuskas. And even chain is not an ideal ability to be using as a main basic. You get pigeon-holed into planning your whole basic rotation around around g conc, d breath and wrack, and this is not enough for high level bossing. We need more basics to fill in the gaps when these abilities are on cooldown.

In mage, alternating between concentrated blast and sonic wave for basics has always been an extremely important part of your core basics rotation for high level bossing. This has always been important if you want to build adrenaline while maintaing decent damage at the same time.

Things were fine when conc blast and sonic wave didn't share a cooldown. We had all the basics we needed and the flow of mage felt much more smooth. This new update ruined that flow and mage as a whole feels clunky now, with not enough decent basics. And sonic wave is pretty much dead content for high level bossing as a whole because of this update. It should be reverted . Me and many others agree. They are already nerfing FSOA apparently, so why did this need nerfed too? Wasn't that already going to be enough?

As a mage user of many years, this particular update ruined the feel of mage for me. Even worse than the upcoming FSOA nerf already upset me, in my opinion.

Sincerely,

I agree 200% with every word. Fuck knows what the point of Jagex is by making conc blast and sonic wave with shared cd.

They are not balancing the styles, they are just forcing mage users to use 4tick again, which is against their logic, since they wanted players to use not many switches, etc.... hopefully the fsoa nerf/balance is not too bad....

100% support.

Whether or not players want to participate in switchscape, a proper magic rotation at a high level still consists of swapping between 2h and dw, cooldown or not.

The devs obviously know this because they stated that wrack should replace gsonic as part of a rotation. However, despite the devs stating that it should be fine, it's actually not. There still aren't enough basics to fill the rotation. The only other available abilities are weak, don't benefit from sun, or are situational.

Gconc is also still superior to Gsonic is almost every situation. If forcing players to camp 2h or dw is the idea behind the update, then dw > 2h every time. This didn't encourage players to staff camp (if that was the goal), it made staffs (and gsonic) dead content. Especially with the fsoa rework causing the damage to be ability based instead of auto based.

And speaking of, with the fsoa "rebalance" coming soon, how exactly are the devs or the community supposed to get a guage on where magic sits. Nobody even had the chance to test the new fsoa and get proper numbers. Maybe magic was going to be exactly where it needed to be with the staff change. Or maybe magic was going to be too weak or too strong. Nobody knows yet. That's why balance needs to happen 1 change at a time, not multiple changes thrown together and hope everything lands in the right spot.

This cooldown update makes no sense. It wasn't very well thought out and it should be reverted asap.
