Played since the early noughties. rs2-rs3-osrs. as many of us have.
I've grown more and more frustrated with the state of old school runescape in recent years. Whilst I understand it's successful and lots of people play because of the updates. I feel things have moved too far away from what is essentially a legacy game mode.
The reality is, most people playing are full grown adults with daily lives to manage. A legacy game mode aimed to this audience should have always been a casual experience.
The things that made me log in all those years ago, would still make me log in tomorrow. But they're gone. The socialisation has disappeared with the normalisation of entity hider, efficiency, or even people just out right in fear of having their account perma muted, banned for a joke, wiping away over a decade of grind. I mean, I wasn't really happy with the grand exchange being released into osrs. As soon as it released, I instantly had less fun and played the game less. Which has just been a recurring theme.
The new skill talk has been the icing on the cake for me, this is no longer a legacy game mode for people that kept runescape afloat for nearly 2 decades. Pandering instead towards the unemployed 30 year olds that somehow run out of things to do in what is possibly the most nuanced and complex game in history, already.
Edit: for some constructive words, I genuinely believe 99% of the playerbase would still have things to do if not a single update was made since launch. I really believe the game would be in a better state, if the priority was always, removing bots, creating a modern account system, which meant multiple characters under one membership, aka. Main, Pure, Ironman. You know, real quality of life changes. I value both my wallet and competition against bots through every skill or boss, than an easier left click drop or a runelite plug in that makes your slayer monsters have a nice in your face hitbox.
