With the new extended downtime on Wednesdays, isn't it about time to improve the communication about downtime with players? For example, instead of trying, trying, eventually giving up and telling users to check their firewall, the client should query the website for server status beforehand and say what's going on, especially as the connection timing out requires the client to be killed on Linux as its close button stops working. Perhaps it could even notify when the game is back online.
I don't believe there's even anything in-game beyond the usual countdown timer, though I'm not normally online to see. This lack of communication causes confusion, as evidenced by the social media posts each time it happens.
Furthermore, this does not get mentioned on the RuneScape homepage, service update archive, Facebook page or Twitter page, or stickied on the subreddit, so to the casual observer it appears something is wrong on their end. I will acknowledge it gets mentioned in the middle of the newsposts, but that's not good enough.
Runescape: The game where being very precise with your timings will get you banned.
