I spend a lot of time on the forums here.

Most of it, reading.

Some lesser amount, replying, when I feel I have something useful to say.

And the least amount, although not a small amount either, writing my own threads.



I spend a lot of time in particular thinking about threads I want to write and writing them carefully. It matters a lot to me that what I've written can be read and understood easily.



I hold myself to a high standard. I think that if I'm going to use up my own time on the forums, I should make it worthwhile, and if I'm going to take up other people's time reading what I've written, it should be doubly worthwhile.


But from what I observe, this is not the same for everyone.

I am willing to forgive that some people have good reasons for a lower quality post.

It's not really important for me to enumerate, but here are some examples:

A) They are new to the forums
B) They are younger and still learning good communication skills
C) They struggle with communication skills
D) English is not their first language

It's also not important for me to know if and when these limitations are affecting another person.

However.

There are clear cases of people who are not new and they have demonstrated the ability to communicate clearly.

Yet they post replies which show no effort and contribute nothing to the discussion.

I find these very frustrating, given the standard I hold myself to.

Does the post count on my forum profile matter? No, not really. It's just a little game you can choose to play or not to care about.

But it genuinely seems some people take this game more seriously than the conversations they force themselves into.

If you are going to take the time to write a reply and make others take the time to read it, not to mention there are only 10 replies per page, so you're taking up "valuable" thread real estate, and you write nothing useful or helpful at all, I have a big problem with it.

I wish it was against the rules.

Not all players are the same and have the same skills but people like you 'who claim to have better/greater understanding' should also do the effort to treat others with more respect for having their short-comings doing there best and sometimes miss the good moments.

These are really good traits for a forumer. It's understandably frustrating but not everyone shares your mindset.
See good in the positives and then take negatives with a pinch of salt as needed (honor others criticism/feedback though!).

It's frustrating to be told a blunt no, but keep a good spirit and it won't affect you!

ps There's a decent forumers guide here , it helps with getting better at appreciating posts of every nature Life is like a camera: Just focus on what's important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out, take another shot !
