I'm looking for some clarification on the rules.

I know that discussing specific players on the forums is not permitted.

However, is it against the rules if you're not mentioning the players name, or anything that could identify that specific player?

For example, if I posted "I met this player... they were completely insane" but didn't include any identifying features or their name, would that be against the rules?
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great! :)

i believe thats okay.

if its in contect to the thread like a thread about collections

you can say "i saw an account with 10million pineapple pizzas"

but making a rants thread

Hoarding is a real issue. i met this person with 10 million pineapple pizzas. this is annoying as its taking all the pineapple pizzas out of the game etc etc. that wouldnt be okay as its ranting about a specific person (Even if you dont name them)

thats my understanding on it

I personally believe that it has to do with the context and how you post it. For example: If there is a thread regarding politics in Off Topic and you talk about someone you know that was being rude at Costco and injured another person just for supporting a specific candidate, then I don't see how this would be against the rules as long as you do not name them specifically and as long as it is related to the topic at hand.

On the contrary, if you create a thread with the sole purpose of making an accusation without naming the person, then that's when I think it becomes against the rules. A thread that only focuses on talking badly about someone, even without naming them, has no place on the RSOFs.

That's how I view the "naming & shaming" rule, even if you don't name anyone.

I'd assume this query is more directed at the FMod team since they are the ones who implement the Rules, rather than the OP seeking the opinion of other 'ordinary' posters.

It's fine to have an opinion and express it (on the above query) but it really carries no weight.

It's nice that the OP is a stickler for the Rules and is seeking not to break them.

If I'm not mistaken, the rules only apply to players, not people who don't play. Or am I mistaken about that?

Original message details are unavailable.

No need to flame any players, no matter your history.
Don't make vulgar, offensive, or profane posts.
Don't target specific players with accusations.

I mean, if I "name and shame" someone who isn't a RuneScape player, that would be fine, wouldn't it? Or am I confused about that?

My understanding is that targeting a specific player would require naming that person, or posting identifying information that would reveal that player's identity.

But if you're not posting their name or any information that could identify that player, then it wouldn't be targeting a "specific" player, would it? It would only be targeting an anonymous player, not a specific player?

I welcome opinions from everyone. It helps to understand how others perceive the rules as well.

And yes, my end goal is to ensure that I'm not breaking the rules.

They're a bit vague, so, sometimes it helps to ask questions, just to make sure you're correctly understanding the rules.

Presumably it would be acceptable to post

"Oh hey look everyone JoeSmith hit 200M Invention first!" or
"Remember when Zezima was the top rank player?"

Other than something of that nature, why bother talking about another player at all especially if you keep their identity anonymous? It's be pretty disinteresting, tbh........

"Hey, there's someone who plays RS that I can't name that's a member of x party"
"Hey, there's someone who doesn't play anymore that I can't name who did a nude sprint"

Not exactly riveting.

I'm fairly certain that "riveting" isn't going to be part of the rules. That's a subjective term. I find wood carving videos to be riveting. My girlfriend doesn't (except for _____ _____, she likes him).

I'm assuming I can mention _____ because he doesn't play RuneScape (that I know of). But I'm now questioning whether or not I can mention him. I mean, he's a pretty crazy guy, but, is me mentioning him and saying that he's "pretty crazy" against the rules?

I mean, without explicitly mentioning a name, it is impossible for someone without the necessary context to know who is being discussed. As such, you are hardly naming-and-shaming, though, obviously, if your entire post or thread centers around a single, unnamed player, one can question the relevancy of your post or thread in the first place. If you are merely using it as an example to prove a point, I cannot imagine that causing any issues.
