Hi folks

This is kinda of a warning/extended appeal.

This is my first forum post because I feel compelled to try and understand why this has happened.

I am concerned about the automation behind detecting bots. Essentially I was served, during double xp weekend (and mental awareness week ironically), a 2 day ban under "Bot Busting (Moderate)". It's easy to rectify if you're actually botting. You stop botting. But if you're not?

I know some people will think that systems are flawless and will ridicule which is fine. But i've trawled through the rules, forums and done a bit of youtube. I'm not so certain.

I have a near maxed out character that I've estimated to have put 10000 hours into. :O There's no logic in me botting. I believe this ban to be down to several possibilities:

- I have Google Chrome's ad blocker installed, this has been going for about 2 years whilst I've been playing and i'm a premier member anyway so shouldn't receive adverts, but still, it's deleted now.

- I have a weird setup on some occasions. I use my PC to load up RS via the client but I use my Oculus Quest 2 VR as a peripheral and that connects to my machine via virtual desktop installed on the VR. I'm wondering if this is triggering something?

- Another suggestion is much more creepy (and I hope not true) is that Jagex can monitor the websites you're going on, whilst you play and if this bot busting sees anything it doesn't like, you're "botting" which this could be anything.

- The final one is the one I think is true as of the posting of this thread. Which is that because i'm near maxed, i've been repeatedly trying to get my herblore up to 120. Because a lot needs to go into it, it can appear quite bot-like to be constantly making potions over and over again and I've fallen foul of the bot buster, simply because I chose to try and max out a very demanding skill.

I'm scared for my account and I'm going to be scaling back my activity significantly. I'm at a loss, i'm not botting :(

If you've trawled through the '
Rules of RuneScape
' to come here and '
argue about a temporary ban
', you have gotten as a warning to stop breaking said rules, it is better to read the rules about what you better should not be doing before a more permanent ban is applied to your account.

Do not forget to read '
Terms & Conditions
' too as they exactly picture your rights. It is '
Jagex's Digital Property
' you are messing around with.

You better should be using a 'standard mouse and standard keyboard' and refrain from using programmable software for that hardware you are using.

'
remember ... 1 click = 1 output
' ... if not ... you are busted.

Thanks for your responses 2_Tron and 333333333!

I did suspect that it might be my VR after reading https://www.jagex.com/en-GB/terms/rules-of-runescape#_ga=2.234852635.467408230.1685194298-1782235727.1644701294 saying:

"Software that is not allowed includes anything that:

Tries to look at or change the communications between your device and our game worlds."

I was thinking after reading this several times (amongst other parts of the macroing rules) that this might be the cause, but there is nothing concrete saying "You should not use VR to play our games", so a lot of this is guesswork. I have my theories as mentioned above, but unless I can speak to a Jagex employee directly it's left as guesswork.

Regardless I'm going to be staying off my VR and sticking to my PC and mobile. :)

I'm well aware that my account is the property of Jagex though. I would very much like to keep my account and i'm still going to maintain a low amount of activity for now to satisfy Jagex's all seeing bot buster.

I would very much like a mod to review this and take the possibility of VR being a thing to play runescape. I'm not the only person asking for this.

As for the wiki article, thanks for providing it, it does say for Botwatch:

"Jagex is quite confident in this system and guarantees that all legitimate players will be safe."

Clearly not with VR. :(

...
Spot on ... Jagex is looking forward to see humans respond to their game-worlds/game-servers and not remote desktops and other 'software' that shouldn't be there instead of a real player.
Maybe they are working on a '
future solution
' but now it is prohibited the way you and others have setup your game.
Apart from that there's also the 'chat-issue' that is prohibited to be changed.

As long as Jagex/JMods do not give a green light most, if not ... all, most VR-solutions are prohibited for the time being.

For information on which types of bans may be appealed and how to appeal them, please see the Appeal an offence page in the Support Centre.
If you have general questions that are not addressed in the Appeal an offence article, then you may ask those on the Community Led Account Help Forum , but remember that Jagex will not take appeals or discuss account specifics over the Forums.

If you wish to suggest that VR be added as valid method of interacting with RS, that is best done by posting a suggestion thread in the Game Content Suggestions Forum

Thread is locked as the Forums may not be used to appeal or protest account bans.
