On this moment, you're only getting an email if you want to
change your password
, if you want to
disable the authenticator
. What if you quited the game for an period of time? What if someone get access to your account? You don't get a notifcation, so you can't take action of it.
Jagex locks accounts, with unusal activity, but how quick does that happen? Isn't it easier if you get an email when this happens so action can be taken?
Other games, such as World of Warcraft do this and companies like Google also have this feature for more safety.
There are still a lot of people being hacked, due phising and if they're informed about this kind of stuff it would be easier to protect their account.
I got the idea to open this thread, after
this
message.

Hello Only 9 Lives, the thread you are referring to, you could advise this person to make contact with his/her Internet Service Provider to see if there has been unauthorized movement on his/her account without his/her knowledge, a violator/identity-thief intercepting emails and remove them instantly after being useful for violator/identity-thief.
It is possible that the owner doesn't have any clue what is going on while his/her account is compromised for a long while.
Of course, Jagex is busy with sending emails once something of any account changes, I know because I have evidence with one of our accounts, but it's not entirely perfect how they would like to have it. Work in progress.

To me, this screams of an excellent opportunity for a new phishing scam: "Your account is unsecure and has been locked, please click here to prove you own this account" with 'click here' being a link to a phishing site asking you to provide lots of info to a phisher that only you should know.
Its worth noting - the email notifications you mention are only emails that the account owner has requested and should be expecting - that is, you request a password change via the website, you request an authenticator to be disabled via the website, and so on - and you've done so after you signed in and pressed the button to do so. This potential notification that is suggested is not one that would be initiated by you, so there are way more ways it can be faked.
You do
not
get other notifications about your account via email, such as for offenses - those come via message centre instead - where its guaranteed to have come from Jagex, since outside parties can't send things to the message centre.
I get the reasoning behind wanting a notification, but I think there are more cons introduced by something than good - in that there will be fakes of this sort of thing that end up stealing details.
