We’ve had many discussions about polls, I’ve always loved them!
Polls are great because its visually easy to consume and you understand how the public feels.
But that also means that the majority has the capacity to influence you. Some people have more compliant personalities and they’re less likely to go against the grain. The absence of a poll which subsequently minimises influence, allows everyone to feel like they’re coming to an even playing field.
(I don’t think you can ever really completely get rid of influence though. For example, forum users are more likely to pay more attention to a green post for various reasons).
The suggestion to bypass this situation would be to reveal a poll only once you’ve voted AND posted.

Fixed a typo...
No cheating now as to where it was
When the day becomes the night and the sky becomes the sea, when the clock strikes heavy and there’s no time for tea; and in our darkest hour, before my final rhyme, she will come back home to Wonderland and turn back the hands of time.

Yep, I agree with your post. It's fairly natural for people to quickly change their opinions when they see the poll results. That said with the view system you suggested it might work! I've not seen it anywhere else though.
Life is like a camera: Just
focus
on what's important,
capture
the good times,
develop
from the negatives, and if things don't work out,
take another shot
