A recent update to NXT has meant that some people are unable to play RuneScape using NXT.

Easy fix, switch to the Java client for the time being, right?

However, I visited the web site to see if this would work for those people. What I found: the "ways to play" page says if you want the Java client, go to the Support page. The Support page says if you want the Java client, go to the "ways to play" page.

So no Legacy client access.

That can be fixed quickly and easily, unlike whatever the bug in NXT may be (although that may be fixed soon too, this is way easier to fix, should be the snap of the fingers).

The Java client can be downloaded by heading to the download section from the RuneScape main page.

Hover over the Game Guide drop down menu and click on Download .

Scroll down and click on the 'Download an Old Version' hyperlink.

And then you'll be redirected to another page. You can download the Java Client from here.

I had the java client installed it always worked. But today I uninstalled it. I tried to go to download/old-verions to reinstall afterwards not there anymore. Please someone help. it's the only version I can play. If I can't play it it means you don't get my money.

Hey Death,

Unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do , Jagex made an announcement last week disabling the option to download the Java client, they have been commenting for a long time that in the future the java version would be removed, so they removed the download button, and intend to remove access to the java client until the end of year.I know how you must be feeling, I also play for java, and when it becomes unavailable it will be a little tricky, I hope you can migrate to the new client somehow :|

Per the The future of RuneScape technology newspost, the Java client is no longer available for download, and will be phased out entirely by the end of the year:

"From today, new downloads of the Java client will no longer be available. We will spend the coming weeks troubleshooting issues with the community and supporting those directly affected by this transition. The exact closure date remains TBC, but we expect this to happen by the end of 2019."

If you do have an older machine that struggled before with NXT, I'd still recommend giving NXT another try - there have been optimizations since the last time you likely tried it, and if you are still having trouble running it you can always ask for help in the Tech Support forum or the Technical Help section of the Support Centre .

Technically speaking the Java-client is heavy, it was CPU-bound instead of GPU-bound.

NXT client has lowered the system requirements for Runescape, as my 5-years old desktop computer which barely render 10fps in Java-based Runescape renders a respectable 30fps medium setting under NXT.
