Returning player name problem

Hello. So as the subject line above states.

I finally decided to log into my account after 8 or so years. To my surprise it looks like someone got access to my account, and changed the account name in the time that I was gone.

I updated my password, and added 2 step. It oddly doesn't look like anything is missing or out of place from what I can see, and from I can remember ( again.. 8 years ), which is a good thing, but I've run into a bigger problem.

I tried changing the name back to the old one I had previously, but it states that a membership is required to name change a character.

Is there any way to change my character name to something else? or am I stuck with this dumb "Bork" name now because of the person who hacked my account..?

..of all names they went with bork.
Any input, or help is much appreciated.

You weren't hacked if nothing is missing. Your old display name might have been reported by somebody and if deemed offensive, then Jagex would have changed it to something random.

Or maybe because you were inactive for so long, somebody else claimed the name for themselves.

You do have to become a member before changing your name.

It's also worth noting that when you are inactive for THAT long, they may "release" your name or throw it in the blender for Release later. If you have nothing missing, nothing out of place etc, it's likely they just forced a name change due to inactivity. When they force a name change, even if you have membership or get it later, you "Usually" can't select your old name as your "new" name. Try searching your old name on the HiScores. If it's not there, there's a pretty good chance (like 98% or so) that it was simply inactivity.
