Wanted to post here, but got stopped initially by a third verification requirement, which I hadn't encountered before......

So before we can post on the RS forums now we need to do the following:

Give in password
Authenticate with authenticator
Complete a sliding puzzle...

It really shows they want to make use of the forums as obnoxious as possible so they can then at one point close them down saying hardly anybody was using them....

Hi Jamzi,

You're not alone. A lot of us are also getting the captcha issue. There's another thread on it here: Abandon Google's reCAPTCHA

It's not a very significant issue for me even though I spend many hours daily here. It just takes some time to get used to.

How is that any different from login into RuneScape3 and you have to open your 'bank' or your 'metal-bank'?
A lot of these features are there to protect being good security against DDoS attacks and other malicious actions by other people.
For players who lost their account, being hijacked, it can't be enough and hopefully, it will never happen to you at any time. :)

Having to put in work to login to RS3 protects the account owner. It's percieved as a benefit for the account owner.

Having to complete the captcha to login to the site (and sometimes, several times a session at random) hinders the user. The user has no percieved benefit from Captcha and hence no reason to praise it. No one goes "Oh this Captcha is stopping DDOS attacks against the authentication servers and thus is a benefit for the community." We don't care about Jagex nor the community, we care about ourseves.

Regardless of the benefits for Jagex, it doesn't benefit us. This might be unfair, but that's human psychology for you. Jagex aren't the only people who have to deal with users having unfair perceptions, and I'm sure they don't take it personally.

But the current implementation Jagex has is absolutely worse than other companies, because it seems the Captcha will randomly assault you even after you've already logged in, and then it'll deauthenticate your session, force you to enter your credentials again, and then mug you thrice.

Frankly, I preferred Google. The option better than Google was to remove captcha, not to replace it with a percieved worse one. (Who knows, perhaps by Jagex's own metrics it's doing great).

I've had to do the sliding puzzle when logging out for ages, in fact I'm surprised if I don't get it. I've only had it logging in a couple of times, today being one of them, but I've never had it interrupt me once I've logged in....so far anyway. :P

edit to add: it doesn't take long to do so its just a minor inconvenience but if it interrupts a session and you lose a post you've been writing then that's different.

I prefer the current slidey puzzle one to the one before with it's damnable tiny pictures of "How many blah blahs are there - tick the boxes" where I had to squint my eyes at the bastard minute, grainy images and kept getting them wrong.

If you think it's bad for the RS Forums then feel sorry for me logging into discord. Took me a good 25-30 mins around 20-25 pictures to get them right.

I really do dislike that Google imange thing. :@

Sliding 1 I can do great no issues. The picture thing click All Sidewalks or Fire hydrents or even Traffic lights. What a pain.

yes but, no but, yes but....... we are talking about a forum here..... Sure I get that I need authenticator and bank pin for the actual game, and I am fine with that......

But for a forum? How many times do you authenticate yourself on Reddit?

I'd authenticate myself anywhere on the internet. Authenticator serves the exact same purpose on forums as it does in-game. Life is like a camera: Just focus on what's important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out, take another shot !

There are easier ways to login into the '
Website & Forums
' through The Lobby in RuneScape and click a '
News-link
' ...

... or in RuneScape itself where messageboards/links are placed that open a direct '
News-link
' to '
Website & Forums
' making you automatically logged in ...

We are after all playing RuneScape and in our spare time while playing RuneScape give feedback to Jagex & The RuneScape Community. :)

You only have to login once into RuneScape and the rest is done through links in RuneScape. :)
