When the game servers go down unexpectedly and nobody has access to the game, Jagex staff also have no access to the website to inform us that the game has indeed gone down.

I believe there should be a dead man's switch in the website code whereby, if and when the connection ever goes down, the website automatically updates with a pre-generated generic note stating that there may be server issues ongoing at this time.

This will serve the function of telling the community that there may be issues, whilst not requiring anyone to access the website to make any changes to it.

This should be considered as not everybody uses social media, and even those that do sometimes prefer to get their information from the route source (i.e. the RS website).

Was thinking about this a bit, and like the concept.

Diff parts of the site are hosted on diff servers (like how secure.runescape.com will fail when the game fails, but the main site and a few others are up). Only issue is, I dont think it would work on the failed server, as the domain cant even get to the code when it fails.

With the new site coming, and being api based, it could have a little part that fetches a test page on one of those tied-to-game servers; and then if it returns nothing, then plop a banner on one of the main pages (image attached below for basic example visual).

It could direct the user to the support center, hosted through zendesk and not on the jagex servers, where information does get posted at during outages. Would deffo help those that don't use offsite platforms more easily access the information.

Can I turn in a paper without citing all sources?

This is pretty much what I had in mind on how it could work, but with myself having no experience in website coding, I felt it best to leave the detail to Jagex ;)

Directing everyone to the support centre is a great idea, especially if the website features are inaccessible.
