I work in a factory, first shift. 6am-3pm.
Moving out of state on the 18th. Works out great because the factory shut down first Christmas vacation is on the 17th.
People on my team don't know how to do their shit right and I got blamed for it, yeah okay, I can understand that. Supervisor needed somebody to yell at, I was at the end of the line and it's part of my job to get what other people don't.
So I'm struggling at the end because nobody can do their job right.
The occasional missed part here and there is fine, sure, I'll get that if you miss it, but when the whole entire team is screwing up the parts what do you expect me to do.

So I got moved off my team, to another. The worst team in the factory. I was placed between two fat girls both pushing 500 pounds. One wouldn't shut up about food, and the other smelled like rotten fruit and ketchup. The lady across from me looked like a 70 year old meth head. She doesn't have any teeth, and she kept sticking her tongue out and smacking her lips together. It was gross, her spit hit my hand at least 10 times in an hour.

So I just stood there, let my row go by me about 4 times until the fat girl who was talking about food got upset and told me to do my row.

I looked at her and said 'No, I think I'm done.' and I walked out.

I hate that place and I'm never going back. Jesus Christ.

I didn't realize factory work was still a thing in the States tbh.

The place sounds awful though. Sounds like motivation to pursue a higher education, imo.

Factory work is booming in the states. It's one of the "I need to get a job, and I need to get a job now' type things. They're always hiring people. If you go to one in a temp agency they'll keep you on for two and a half months. Once you hit three months working there, they've got to give you benefits so they toss you aside before you hit that mark.

I've been demotivated for higher education only because of the people I know. Out of the handful of people that I still talk to from high school that went to college, plus some of my brothers friends, the majority of them are living at home with their parents because they can't find a job. They've gone for things like architecture, marine biology, ect, can't find a job and refuse to work in fast food and factory type jobs.

Getting a factory job is literally one of the easiest things to do, if you can pass a drug test you can get a job in a factory.

A job is a job, and that's what I needed. The main team I was put on were fun people, mostly around my age and even two people I knew from school awhile back. So it wasn't that bad.

But an hour after I got moved to a new team, that was it. The youngest after me on that team seemed to be in their mid 30s.
I'm not going to deal with a team of people who smell terrible, talk about sleeping naked waking up with a dog licking their nipples and getting spit on every 10 minutes if I don't have to. So I left.

I mean, you're judging your dislike of university once people who are choosing marine biology and architecture. No offense but those aren't really in high demand jobs that people need a lot of. The world can easily live without a lot of marine biologists or architects. You gotta pick something with more of an actual use such as business, engineering, lawyer, doctor. All professions that are professionally renowned and you can in the long run do your own thing if you wish, and people actually need those things almost anywhere you go in life. It's almost like complaining there are no fine arts jobs after getting your degree, we'll no shit there aren't any jobs Cuz no1 really needs that. Also if the degree and job take more work and are considered "less fun" you're more likely to find less competition getting a job in the long run. Such as being a lawyer, lots of competition getting through studies, but once you complete it then you're pretty much set for life.

I'm a bio major in university and while I am doing it because I enjoy biology, I am limited by the demand of jobs. I'm most likely going to be finding work to do with public health / epidemiology simply because there will always be a demand for that kind of thing. And there's a lot of government jobs involving public health so that automatically means a good pension and benefits. I'm particularly interested in working with parasites, so I'm trying to get into my province's West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease surveillance team.

While marine biology and architecture degrees are interesting and useful, they aren't really things on which people depend on a daily basis.

I'd definitely investigate possibilities that higher education opens up. Sometimes just having a degree in a general field can help you get a job, especially with the fierce competition in the job market, having a degree or graduating from some kind of trade school is definitely a key to finding a good job.

I wouldn't say I dislike universities because of bad major choices of people I'm antiquated with. But I will admit I'm using that as one excuse for me not to go. I'm not looking for a higher end tier job, either. I was fine with factory work, for the most part. Sure there are fuck up days like the day I walked out, but I'm not going to stand between human filth like that for year.
I'd be perfectly content with a retail job.
You might also be glorifying those 'respectable' job titles a little too much to. To say that once you're a lawyer you're set for life is a pretty big statement. I didn't mean to come off saying that universities are a bad thing, nor am I saying it's hard to find a job. I had this response all thought out earlier when I woke up but now I'm having trouble articulating my thoughts. I'll come back to this.
