Anyone played it yet? Thoughts/opinions?

Without major spoilers:

-Amazing graphics, but not much better than Halo 4's.
-Hardest campaign of any Halo game yet. (Maybe cause I haven't memorised map/spawns yet.)
-Boss fights in campaign, which is new.
-Master Chief is NOT the main character anymore *sadface*
-No abilities. Just sprint and thruster, which is a good thing.
-Melee attacks are OP. One punch will send an Elite flying into the wall.
-A lot of useless weapons now have a niche use. (Plasma pistol is less useful, however.)
-Multiplayer is enjoyable, comparable to Halo 2's prime but still not as good.
-Warzone is 12v12 + Covenant/Prometheans so it feels like a clusterfuck. Still fun.
-Microtransactions for the first time *smh* (multiplayer only)

I honestly didn't like the campaign nearly as much as I wanted. I never felt a connection with Osiris and the only new character that stood out was Buck, and he was in ODST so he isn't even new. I also really wanted 343i to explore Kelly, Linda, and Fred but it seems they kind of plopped them in there, told casual fans lolnope Master Chief isn't the last Spartan II anymore, and then gave some more action to Osiris. I felt momentary sadness before every level that started that had me control Locke instead of Master Chief which, if you were counting, is 12/15 missions. The game was hyped with all the hunt the truth trailers and stuff however none of that is touched on in the game which was a real disappointment.

I was so hyped during the first boss fight and it was a real challenge (I always play solo legendary my first time though these games). Then, without going into detail for those that haven't played, it got repetitive (The final boss fight was fun in a die over and over until you beat it kind of way though). A little variety would have been nice.

I haven't played too much multiplayer but its fun so far. I like the additions of the jetpack, infinite sprint, and clambering. However two major things really annoy me, microtransactions and the lack of playlists. Microtransactions may not give much of an in game advantage but it saves the players time if they invest into it, which is significant and shouldn't be overlooked. It's also a very slippery slope. For playlists, Warzone is fun and is a nice new take on a multiplayer gametype but why is it the only social playlist? I want to be able to warm up and casually play unranked slayer or objective or something, not warzone with the annoying req system all the time. 343i needs to hurry up and add big team battle too. I love that game type.

Overall, it's still a rather good game and I'm glad I bought an xb1 for it.

Thanks a lot Soccerdies, your thoughts are appreciated. I can safely agree with most of the things you said.

I should add that there is an absurd amount of story that occurs between Halo 4 and 5, such as New Blood and Escalation book/comics. It seems that in order to understand what is going on, players will have to read through a lot of pages prior to playing. I can imagine many new players will be like WTF is going on??? when they start Halo 5 immediately after 4.

Fireteam Osiris have a lot of backstory but it's not significant, and it feels like they were characters created at the last minute. I can only relate to Buck since he's an original character from the Halo 3 days (featured in Reach too). And even then, how he became a Spartan-IV from an ODST requires reading an entire book. I can't relate to Osiris simply cause they're not original.

I'm happy to see Spartan-II Blue Team back in action. Frederic, Kelly, Linda, and MC are pretty much family. They lacked personalities, however. They seemed plain and bland and had almost no purpose in the game other than to simply be there. They contributed little to the actual story.

Additionally, terminals were replaced with data pads which only play voice recordings rather than videos. Idk why but that kind of annoys me.
