new paid gamers ruin veterans

I will highlight the solution before I define the problem. The solution is to rebalance the metrics of gatekeeping to be more about
TIME
: not always about nerfing specs, nerfing drop rates, and allowing the tail to wag the dog so that new paid gamers are always ruining gameplay for the nearly silent majority of tenured players.

Initial caveat: I really like rs guy. I feel almost protectively fond of him, and the main reason is that he seems content to get his paycheck from google owned youtube breaking 10k subscribers, and as far as reply boys go, he is perhaps the most humble, the least greedy. He hasn't decided to endorse third party softwares that either break or come close to breaking runescape. I mean overlays. I mean software that bypasses the guide mode penalty at dungeoneering. RS Guy has done none of that, and I'm not even sure that he knows he isn't doing it, but man I love him for that most of all. His zeal and enthusiasm is contagious.

First unexamined issue: A j mod writing about rs guy described him as "so professional" as if hinting that the rest of us should spend time line editing. It ignores that "professional" means paid. The people/players you're describing... not only is it their job to play the game, but many of them are making more money than jagex employees. I don't know how many, and its a contract deal with google to keep it a secret that you get paid after 10k subs, but we all know that Felix pewdiepie is worth 73 million dollars for his reply boy vidiocy. Its not directly stated that there is anything wrong with amateur entuhiasm... and/or not directly saying that the standard for feedback that jagex will consider only comes from paid gamers and not paying gamers, but thats been an ongoing issue, and it needs a rebalance.

Why else should we believe immunity of jagex to the interest of paid players with an interest in creating feats only they can do.

Compare rigs: I used a 500 dollar best buy rig for 10 years to play rs from year 2010 to 2020. It melted three graphics cards, and I replaced each with whatever was on sale. In 2020 I built a NUC with Iris XE integrated Core i7 that is a 4 inch cube for about 750 bucks. The largest expense, computing, for me, is keyboard, and I am very proud of my cherry mx black ducky keyboard because I'm a giant gorilla and I would hamfist and misclick with anything smaller or weaker. I'm doing all of runescape now at 100 fps mid set at like... 40 watts?

The paid gamer is enabling that crypto inflated GPU titan at $8,000 stuff and setting fire to about 20 grand worth of computer gear a year all running at upwards of 3,000 watts. You can -see- it in any of their videos.

You get it? Thats a HUGE visible difference between paying and paid gamers.

You should OBVIOUSLY want to have millions of paying gamers, and not so many paid gamers. I mean... don't be mean to the paid gamers, but you SHOULD want to rebalance things in ways that rarify them.

So I can't say exactly what, and thats because my suggestions seem to work better if I can highlight something already in the game, and let you guys make it your own idea to tweak this and that about it, but please please look really hard at those veteran capes. 10, 15, and 20 year capes are not simply about bragging rights. Its stuff worn by players like me... who got really old. If those capes and/or tenured unlockable buffs seem too juicy, too good, then I need to remind you that theyre not at all. They ought to be like walkers for older players, and those are gonna be how jagex makes money, so you should want to grow lots of those.

I put it to HLF snipers, or pmod, fmod, jmods... to suggest better things than me, but a couple ideas about what tenure could unlock moreso than legendary auras...

Some things I think worth considering as unlocks
with tenure capes 10, 15, 20:
1. ever increasing chances to pick your own reaper task once the ability bought
2. lower threshholds for boss pets
3. changes to how death in the wildy occurs so that our choices about where to respawn actually matter, and so that world hopping while skulled means you cannot attack veteran halo'ed players. No more mute traps: they taunt, and then report anything you reply with at edge bank.
4. lower threshholds for skilling pets

and yeah thats all kinda born of response to kerapac. there have been weird changes made since his release, and they favor the paid gamers much moreso than tenured paying gamers.

totally
different thing, but I dont want to create a separate new HLF thread about it.

"kerapet" woulda been a better name than "kerry" and I aint sayin to just change it (cause maybe some player is surnamed kerry and it'd be cruel to snatch his serendipity), but maybe since we're turnin corner of like... skins for boss pets that unlock doin things... can we have a drop down choice of names for boss pets unlocked kinda like when you use an sgs on zilyana's altar to toggle active/passive effects? Like... talk to kerapac's son and allow him to rename it for you as a choice?

I am so confused. Are we upset/envious that there are content creators out there getting paid to play the game? If that's the case, I personally don't fall into that demographic. If anything, they can bring popularity towards the game which in-turn ensures further-financial longevity of the game's lifespan.

thats a conspicuously coy barb. you don't have a question. you wanted to lie and say reply boys create content. denied. jagex creates the content. the consumers of this content are underrepresented by the reply boys.

the larger point you seem determined to misunderstand is that I posit veteran years of loyalty need something new. you and I have all of the legendary auras, and there should be some new stuff for it. for many reasons.
