so apparently a week ago (said loki) the hlf access thread was removed, and I wonder if we're allowed to predict that alongside the advent of new launcher (in beta now) a purge of rsof? I am 100% okay with that. Its already true that all the jmods, pmods, etc will lock a gravebumped thread, so its not "content" to have all the forum written things kept in amber forever.

if we're looking ahead to rsof v.2.0 I hope its got some more social media sensibilities like being able to block users, use some relevance engine newsfeed features, make friends, send private messages to a mailbox, etc. That'd be nice. The game relies a -lot- too much on things like discord... and players fail to audit discord... its only "free" because we're the product. maybe not yet, but they've had metrics, and data mined its users for years, and its autonomy is circling the drain. discord is going to sell everyone's thumbprint to sony or microsoft someday, and thats... not good for the game, not good for each other as players, and I truly hope someone at jagex, or several people at jagex can at least review a call for rsof v.2.0 as "that'd be nice" even if they can't do it right now.

I could keep writing about this for 100 pages. Less is more for now.
I have quit rsof because moderator found comments about darklight bonus damage on demons "off topic" for wildy flash mobs full of demons

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if it was removed completely, because of the lack of activity in here over the past couple of years, as well as the fact it's just so easy to max these days.

You can't exactly make these forums up to 120 all skills, because the reason these forums were the best back in the day, is because of the forum interactions between players and Jagex was a lot more frequent - nowadays JMods can only be seen on Reddit, Twitter or Discord. The HLF Discord, while quite inactive, is still more active than this forum section, and the only reason the Discord exists was for a more centralised section people past and present could still reconnect. Those who used to be active on here, but no longer play RS, were still able to talk via Discord.

Back when Mod Meadows was doing a major forum cleanup (in 2018, or 2019?), I was one of the very vocal regulars still around advocating this section not to be removed because of the history and small community it still had... now I'm not so sure I share the same feeling for it...

If HLF were to be removed, I would still like to have a few threads to be archived for historic references, such as the creation of the Completionist Cape thread, Chat Lounge, and a few others. Before any potential removal, if that is the intention, I would very much encourage Community Management and the FMod team to consult the regulars here by creating a thread to recommend which threads to save, what our opinions are on a removal, etc. Even if a new subforum was made "HLF - Archive" where no one could make new posts, but certain threads of importance were moved to it, and then the section became visible to all at the bottom of the forums.

the news this week about "suggest retro skins" had encouragement to tag up social media, but didn't lead to a thread at rsof, or a poll booth.

it leapt to mind that the dragon scimitar we voted for, and that lasted like 2 days before the melted candle eoc version replaced it, would be a worthy retro suggestion for cosmetics, but... idek if its already in the retro dragon armour skin pack, and might have been able to gleen that info from a thread.

so I have to wonder, aloud, for hlf snipers even, is rsof being marginalized en toto? does jagex seem to want to let go of it?

Linking to the forum would have been a bad idea.

The whole concept is you get a lot of people to post old items on social media.

Other random people see those posts and decide to give Jagex money. They login twice and disappear, which is awesome for business.

If you instead lured everyone to the forum, the site would probably crash and the general public would have no idea that we are getting retro pizzas.

As for this forum, or the forums in general, I think the only ones who get anything from it are the bosses. Guys in suits. Decision makers. Vince McMahon types.

At the moment I'm not even sure they exist. We have councils.

I'd rather they be a committee. Simply because that is a fun word.

The Grim Reaper of forums, Mod Alex S kicked the door in page 55.

Basically Jagex ain't got no time for the forums because they have to round up all the folks who got chased away from the forums.

I'm pretty sure they never asked why those folks left. Which is a bit convenient.

Congratulations to all the trolls and the enablers. Their dedication finally paid off.

The whole reason everyone left the forums, comes down to Mod Shauny and him making Reddit relevant. It was him, during his time as a CM started using Reddit a lot and making that a popular platform where he would pass along responses from other staff members. Slowly over time, other JMods began using Reddit and more and more people flocked there. Eventually, it became so popular that it became the default for JMods to use.

Following Shauny's departure, he did an interview with a streamer, where he stated one of his regrets was making Reddit as big as it got, and in turn killing off the RSOF.

Some people will argue that the RSOF died because of over-moderation, and lack of any tools with this board being stuck in the early 2000s, and while those are true, I believe it was completely killed off due to what Shauny started.

Well, there you go. They don't prefer it, they were lured and abandoned. They would probably communicate with sidewalk chalk if Jagex showed approval.

Another word he used was 'nostalgic' which is very interesting, and amazingly wrong.

Some kind of fad word I guess. Anyone who says that doesn't realize the forum was always bad and people were always hoping to improve it.

I remember at one point Jagex posted a poll. Should we keep this forum or pay $74 to walmart for a professional version.

I never actually saw the results to that one. But I can definitely see we got it wrong. Yikes.

I had a long post typed up but I then thought what's the point.

As far as I'm concerned Alex unlocking a thread the Fmods had reviewed two days earlier says it all. If they can't get an obvious one like that right then what hope is there?

is it because there are only a small number of active f mods?

Also Roddy I'm beginning to think you were right regarding CM Nick et al.
