I was just wondering if there is a reason that, since the introduction of level 90 weapons, Jagex seems to have taken a strong stance against giving dual wield weapons Special Attacks, while giving every two-handed weapon one.

Drygores, Ascensions and Seismics have no spec, but Noxious weapons do.

Khopeshs, Praesuls and Blightbounds have no spec, but SGB, SOS, ZGS and the new Eldritch do.

I was just wondering why this is the case. It seems odd that, a mechanic that used to be universal to all types of weapons, is now being reserved only for a specific class of weaponry.

Maybe ascensions could have a lightning attack similar to boss. Blightbounds could have some root attack I think

RS3 team is too lazy to work on DW weapon special attacks because apparently they had to do some special exception thing with claws so you can't do the spec when you only wear one, but then when you equip one it tries to equip the other one, and they don't feel like doing that for more weapons. But long story short, the MTX team probably isn't going to spend time working on DW weapon specials so they'll probably never see the light of day.

I've noticed this too. It's one of the reasons why I prefer 2H weapons to duel wields, generally. I haven't run the numbers, but I suspect that duel wields, being faster, have slightly higher dps than 2H weapons. Perhaps special attacks are a way of balancing. However, special attacks are uniquely effective at giving weapons character. Personally, I would like to see more duel-wield special attacks for that reason. The Kopesh's lend themselves so naturally to specs that it's a disappointment that they lack them.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation. I would have to wonder why after all this time they haven't done anything to make the system simpler though. Like let the spec be used with only 1 equipped, but scale the effect down. Make it stronger when both are equipped.

nop, weapon speed doesn't do jack in EoC combat lol, only auto-attacks matter for that, and since that's the case, I believe 2H weapons are technically always better(?), but it really comes down to which ability sets are more powerful for the time being

in EoC (barring auto-attacks), all weapon speeds get converted to 4 ticks (fastest, or 2.4s)
so nox scythe vs drygores is like this:
Scythe: 2011(.5) damage (22.35x90, because 'average' 2H weapons get 22.35)
Drygores: 1296 (864+432) damage (14.4x90, because 'fastest' MH is 9.6 and OH is 4.8)

but as if that wasn't confusing enough, EoC converts all weapons to fastest speed, so 'fastest' 2H weapons get 14.4x (which puts Scythe at 1296 damage)

oh hey look, homogenous combat

This issue is exactly why I'm looking forward to the Weapon Diversity patch. I contributed a few of the weapon traits selected and I can't wait to use them.

We did indeed lose a lot of diversity of weapons with EOC, however after this patch I personally feel we will have far more than we had before, as that diversity was primarily based around combining weapons through tick manipulation. Special attacks also played a role but we still have those in EOC, they just don't play as significant of a role.
