Welcome to the January edition of the Gielinor Globe, the RuneScape forums' very own monthly community newsletter.
This special holiday newsletter has some seasonal snippets for everyone.
The holidays are a time for giving, and we have loads of competition prizes to give away. Read on for RuneScape Gods, monkeys, silly voices, funny photos of Jagex staff, quizzes, and even the chance to design a T-shirt for the Jagex Store.
If you're in a clan (or thinking about joining one) then you're in luck. 2011 is going to be a huge year for clans - keep reading for an update about forthcoming clan content and in-game clan celebrations.
And to top it all off, we have seasonal poetry and even a song about the most festive vegetable in the world - the cabbage!
It remains only for us to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at Jagex!

Christmas Event

This year, the festive spirit comes to Daemonheim in the form of Thorvar Crittersmash, a suspiciously jolly man who’s trying to bring Christmas cheer to his fellow Fremennik. He's sweet talked the Queen into allowing him use of her beloved Land of Snow as the venue for the Heimland Games: a suitably tough display of Fremennik strength, and certainly not a cover up for a Christmas party.
There's just one problem. When Thorvar went to Daemonheim to gather the Fremennik who have been battling away in the dungeons, he lost the equipment he needed for the games! You’ll need to head into the special Christmas dungeon and make your way through a series of challenging rooms in order to save the day.

Competition Update

December has been absolutely stuffed with competitions and we’ve seen a brilliant response to all of them. In case you’ve had your head stuffed firmly in the snow for the past month, here’s what you’ve been missing:
RuneScape Gods Exposed Monkey Voice Acting!
The catchy title says it all; players recorded themselves reading a few lines, sent them to us and the winner's lines will be included in the 10th installment of the legendary RuneScape Gods Exposed series directed by the world-famous Tehnoobshow! The winner will also receive 12 months of RuneScape membership and a stocking stuffed with Jagex goodies. For more information check out the official launch video for the competition here . RuneScape Gods Exposed Movie Poster Competition!
If voice acting isn’t quite your thing, how about movie poster design? To help promote Episode 10 of Gods Exposed we asked the community to come up with catchy movie posters which we’ll display in our Gallery. The best entry is going to be sent around to our supported fansites and will shout about Gods Exposed to the wider RuneScape community! Once again the winner of this competition can expect 12 months of RuneScape membership, a stocking stuffed with goodies, and we’ll even frame a copy of their movie poster and get it sent to them in the post! Please note that this competition is now closed.
RuneScape 10th Anniversary T-Shirt Design!
The ten year anniversary of RuneScape is just around the corner and to help celebrate such a momentous occasion we want you to help design a limited edition exclusive t-shirt that’ll be sold on the Jagex store to mark the occasion. Not a great artist? Don’t worry, it’s the concept we’re after so if you have a good idea, make sure you enter the competition! More information can be found on the official forum thread here . This competition is open until the 31st of December!
If you weren’t able to enter any of the competitions above, don’t worry! We’ve got a ton planned for the new year so keep your eyes peeled and get ready!

Clan Update

It’s cold, it’s snowy and my Kalphite Queen snowman didn’t turn out quite how I had hoped, so what better time to hide indoors and write this update on clans for you? There are exciting times ahead and if you want to find out about some of what’s in-store, be sure to check out the Clan Tools Developer Blog . There are more blogs on the way but that isn’t all you have to look forward to. We are holding a clan celebration to help begin the new year in style; this will be open to everyone and is a great opportunity to find out more about the clan world. Keep an eye out for more news very soon.
Although we have none of our usual subtle plans to get you all killed in-game just now (the snow has subdued us), that shouldn’t stop you from creating your own events of madness and mayhem in-game. Just a few fun activities for you and your clan to try out include playing hide and seek in the Chaos Tunnels, fisticuffs with the Corporeal Beast, perhaps try to see who can get the furthest across the desert before dying, and my favourite, creating a level 3 account and seeing how long you can survive levelling in the Wilderness. Go! Have fun, and let me know the results in the Clan Discussion forum .
If you aren’t part of a clan, don’t worry, there is time to right this wrong! There are clans for almost everything in-game. For information check out the Game Guide page for clans . Joining a clan means you will have a whole new experience in game, so it’s worth hunting one down if you haven’t already.

Twas the day of an Update
Twas the day of an update, when all through the castle,
Mod MMG patrolled the work-stations, giving his JMods a hassle;
All of them busy, some sipping on tea,
Mod Mark H patrolled the forums and stroked his little goatee.
Mod Rupz was hard at work, answering billing tickets,
While some mods goofed off downstairs and played cricket;
Mod Chris L made strange daemon noises in the audio room,
Mod Kathy ran around the office yelling "Update ready soon!".
The Support Team were hard at work protecting us players,
Mod Timbo kicked back and trained up his Slayer;
Mod Sam H worked on a beautiful painting,
Mod Emilee was poised on the forums, patiently waiting.
Mod Poppy chatted with PMods in the game,
Mod SteveW checked the RuneScape front page once again;
The CM team sat in the meeting room trying to agree,
They all yelled to Mod Lewis R "HEY, WHERE'S OUR TEA!?"

Christmas Quiz Quest & December's Winners
