Introduction

Welcome to the September edition of the Gielinor Globe, the RuneScape forums' very own monthly community newsletter.
The last few weeks in Cambridge have been blustery and damp, so we've decided to cheer ourselves up with a poetic twist to this month's edition. Make sure you check out the two wonderful player poems we've selected for you.
If you've been inspired by what you see, or if you're simply already in the creative mood, please do send in your own RuneScape-related poem, story, review or player memories. Send them by email to [email protected] , with 'newsletter' in the subject title so they're easy to spot. We'd love to show off your work on the forums!
Don't forget! If you register an email address for your account, you can get ten extra F2P bank spaces. Head here to register your email address now.

Bonus XP Weekend is back!

We’re happy to announce that an extended Bonus XP Weekend will be running from the 3rd to the 6th of September 2010! Members should prepare their potion ingredients, stock up on planks and build up a strong Dungeoneering prestige to get the most from the four days.
Following feedback from March’s Bonus XP Weekend, Summoning XP will be boosted by a set percentage of 10% over the course of the four days. All other skills will follow the schedule noted in the table.
To get a clearer idea of what actions will and will not be modified by the Bonus XP Weekend, and for more information in general, please read this developer blog or the Second Helping forum thread.

Competition Update

The Golden Gnome video awards finalists have been chosen, and the winners will be decided live at RuneFest. If you're not going to be at RuneFest, keep an eye out for an announcement on the RuneScape website after the awards ceremony.
We have also selected the finalists for our RuneFest gallery competition, and we can't wait to see the artwork on the walls at the event. Well done to everyone who sent in an entry!
That's everything for competitions this month, but I should have plenty to tell you about next time.

The Jagex Cup 2010- Results

It has been another amazing Jagex Cup year with over 40,000 players registering, 322 wars being fought and literally millions of XP gained. The Jagex Clan Cup 2010 sprung a few new surprises this year with new additions like the Buddy Skills, Sub-Divisions and much more.
So, without further ado, here’s the roll of honour for the 2010 Jagex Clan Cup:

  • Winner of the Combat Cup: RuneScape Dinasty

  • Winner of the Skilling Cup: Divination

  • Winner of the Combined Cup: Basedin2minutes

  • Winner of 20v20 Subdivision: Future of Old Style

  • Winner of Pay-to-Play Subdivision: Reign of Terror

  • Winner of Community Clan Subdivision: Titans Revolutions

  • Winner of Over 115 Combat Subdivision: RuneScape Dinasty

  • Winner of Pure Subdivision: Mayhem Makers

Congratulations to the winners, commiserations to the beaten finalists, and a massive thanks to every clan that took part and made this year’s Jagex Clan Cup the success it was.
Now that the blood has dried on the Clan Wars arena floor and the skillers can hang up their tools, it’s time to talk rewards!
Each of the Jagex Clan Cup winners in Combat, Skilling and Combined have all been given a Big Ticket to celebrate their success and reward their hardest working member. A Big Ticket means lifetime membership and an all-expenses-paid trip to Jagex Games Studios in Cambridge, UK, a visit around our offices and the opportunity to partake in one of our famous 'Jagex Jollies', a.k.a. an awesome party.
Let's not forget the gift that the dwarves have given us for the second Jagex Clan Cup – engraved golden plaques across Gielinor! You can find these plaques at Edgeville next to the Soul Wars portal, Clan Wars behind the purple portal and just outside Lumbridge Castle. Now all of the Jagex Cup Winners, including those of 2009, have their name engraved in gold.
There’ll be a full Clan Cup report in August’s Clan Submissions Page, which will include first-hand accounts, your screenshots and maybe a just a word or two from the winning clans. For now, you might like to read July's Clan Submissions Page .

WARNING - if you have not played Love Story, you may not want to read the following poem, as it contains some slight spoilers
Love Story in Six Stanzas
The Wise Old Man, he is a creep,
Killing kalphites, traversing the deep,
I don’t understand how he got a mate,
Or how for dates, he was not late.

But all that e-drama, it sucks indeed,
She hates books, but he likes to read,
But all that karma hit him in the back,
For she likes combat, and he hates attack.

They were true lovers, but it all ends,
Their dislikes and hate create new trends,
She stole his house, a practical prank,
And so without her, he robbed a bank.

Years went on, some fool lost her ring,
And one crazed quester decided to bring,
The ring was returned, but then so was she,
And she still hates him, ‘twas clear to see.

So after breaking tablets and getting hurt,
After making blue fire rather inert,
After dodging flames and dodging spells,
The two spoke once more, after saying farewell.

And then they forgave, and then they forgot,
And then together they went and fought,
But in the end, their love will not be cut,
Not by tower, not by wizard, not by Thingummywut.

Ode to the Jagex Cup
Oh these days, they are exciting,
The Jagex Cup, for some is frightening,
Fight bravely for glory and fame,
But if you lose, do not feel ashamed.
Stealing Creation's for the combined,
Skill, conquer and survive,
For some of you, it is destined,
You may just stay alive.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention,
The skill cup deserves our attention,
It's all about efficiency,
Who will win? We can't see.
But don't forget to play with respect,
It is what you want and also should expect,
It is but a cup, nothing too much,
This is the end of the poem, the final touch.

September Quiz Quest

This competition tests just how much you know about the RuneScape world. There are prizes for five winning entries and we hope that you'll enjoy hunting for the answer.
This month's Quiz Quest:

Head north of Lumbridge and examine Beefy Bill’s wagon; what is it loaded with?

Once you have the answer, post it on this thread or send it to us by email at [email protected] - and if you could include the words 'quiz quest' in your subject header it will really help us to spot your suggestion! If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to send your entry in on your behalf, from their contact email address.
Please remember to let us know your RuneScape account name with your answer, if you submit by email - that way we will know who should be rewarded for their fact-finding power!
The competition will close promptly at 10:00 UK time on Friday 10th September 2010 - so get your answer in as soon as you can.
Winner
The winner will receive a complimentary 3 months' membership to RuneScape and a RuneScape mouse mat signed by Mark Gerhard and a selection of other J Mods.
Runners-up
The four runners-up will receive one month's RuneScape membership.
All winners will have their names posted in the next edition of the Gielinor Globe!
So, good luck finding out the answer!

Who the Zamorak?

Last month's 'Who the Zamorak?' was pretty cultural, so who was it? The JMod featured was actually Mod French, lord of languages and biscuits. Well done to those of you who guessed correctly.
This month we have 10 more strange-but-true clues to the identity of a mystery J Mod. We can't wait to see your guesses.
All the clues are true (and ever so slightly odd), but that is half the fun. So put your thinking caps on and unravel the mystery – answer next month!
  • I completed a two year drama course in one year

  • I annoy Mod SteveW every Christmas by telling him “Die Hard” is the best Christmas movie ever.

  • If I were a fantasy race I would be a half-elf.

  • I was once an extra in a UK crime show.

  • Since joining Jagex I have visited Japan, Los Angeles, and Paris on vacation.

  • I helped test the first batch of Dungeoneering.

  • I currently don’t sit next to any RuneScape staff members!

  • Outside of work I am a huge fan of tabletop Roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons.

  • I have a rather unflattering nickname in the office.

  • I’ve been working at Jagex for nearly five years now.
