“Watching a coast as it slips by the ship is like thinking about an enigma. There it is before you, smiling, frowning, inviting, grand, mean, insipid, or savage, and always mute with an air of whispering, "Come and find out".”
- Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness
A pair of ships landed in Port Sarim, towering over the schooners and cogs which dotted the coastline, staring out into the open, endless ocean. Through the whispers of bartenders, rumours in town halls and the dried ink etched into adverts on shop windows, the promise of adventure spread.
Adventure? Yes and so much more. The promise of adventure appealed to many, but the promise of land appealed to so many more. Land meant food, riches, a new life. A better life.
New shores await.
