A youth slipped through the crowds gathering around the baker's stall, all, like him, allured by the aroma of the morning's sweets. The boy, lank-like, feels the hunger he had felt since the night before as his eyes came upon the golden-brown top of a large muffin. He looked to the price - one gold coin - and then he reaches for a pouch on his side, hopefully, only to find that it was empty. With a soft frown, the youth slipped away from the stall. He felt the pang of hunger again, shifting his dark eyes around. He would have to steal someone's gold if he ate today.
Then he started towards a man, whose coinpouch was filled nearly to the brim with gold. The boy stepped up, his right hand reached out to grasp the hefty coinpouch. With a swift, practiced jerk, the youth would pull it free. The finely-dressed man yelled out in surprise, as he escapes.
As he escaped into an alley, he glanced over his shoulder to make sure that he had truly gotten away. He could taste the sweet, chocolate muffin now and that made him grin wide, and his stomach yowl louder. Suddenly, he collided with two other knights. He stumbled backwards before collapsing onto his back as he looked up in first surprise, then fear. The knights stood in silence, before he heard another set of footsteps approach from behind. The knights turned, and kneel before him, as the man stepped in between them. The youth's jaw dropped slightly when he realized it was the King who stood before him now. The King offered the youth his arm and a sad, almost disappointed smile. The youth, frozen with fear, hesitated before taking his forearm and was promptly helped onto his feet. He took the stolen pouch of gold from him gently, before he unlatched his own coinpouch, and placed it in the hand of the boy.
Slowly, he made his way back to the baker's stall, after dismissal from the King, where he would exchange the King's gold for the now, cold, muffin. It would have to do.
Hi, I'm Dan.
