Thank you.

As this plot grows in size and scope this thread has been created to advertise and document the events surrounding it. This is a primarily Forinthry plotline which will allow any and all other interested parties to get involved in the events as they unfold.

-IC-

Something is changing in Forinthry.

There is... Something. There is a power, a will, an entity call it what you will that has begun exerting its influence on the land. It’s not a new thing, we’ve felt its taint upon the land for generations, since the first of us started to resettle these lands after the Great Burning in fact.

But it has grown stronger, we feel its power from the Wall to the Sea, from Deamonheim to the Frozen Wastes. And as it grows so do more things change here, there are reports of beasts mutating out in the Deep Wilderness. More and more of our people turn to worship this power, to abase themselves before it, to form a cult to serve its will.

And now it has begun to act, there are stories of mysterious murders, of disappearances, of horrors greater than even our dark lands have ever witnessed. Its purpose, if it has one is unknown. Its actions twist one way then another, even seemingly thwarting its own goals. Or perhaps achieving aims we do not yet understand.

I fear a time is coming for Forinthry. Will we be consumed by this darkness, blacker than anything even we have seen? Will it even spill beyond our borders?

Is there any hope for the cursed lands?

The Next Main Event

The war is getting out of hand and expanding beyond Forinthry's borders. A flock of flying Mutated Lycerta was last seen flying over the mountains towards Rellekka. Is this accidental or plan of the plan of some controlling will not yet revealed? None can say but nevertheless Rellekka must be protected against this threat and thus the soldiers of Forinthry will stand with the warriors of the Fremennik.

For the sake of the innocents within the city walls the new alliance must:

Hold the Line!

-OOC-

Date: TBD
Location: Rellekka

Currently looking for more people willing to get involved in this event on both sides. Also looking to see if anyone is willing to take on the role of High Priest of the Cult of Tak. Would be good to have some more tribe/drone chars also join in.

Other Events

No need for a lack of roleplay just because we're waiting on the next major RP.
Here's a list of ideas for smaller RPs in the meantime (feel free to offer your own suggestions at any time)

- Informing the rest of the lords - Our enemy is revealed but not all of Forinthry's lords were present at the time, an opportunity for more discussion of the threat, the implications for Forinthry and some general political intrigue me thinks.

- Battle preparation - The enemy is near, the battle lines drawn so what does that mean? Wartime RP! Sadly lacking from many RP wars these days this covers a range of actives that relate to the war without impacting its outcome (much):
-Military training
-Patrols (with risk of encountering enemy scouts)
-Building Defenses
-War council meetings
-Civillian war preparations (preparing shelters, meeting to discuss evac plans ect ect)

-Other chaotic events - The Cult of Tak is launching an attack on the Marauders but the shadowy entity they worship acts across a kingdom wide (or even global) scale. If a possible strike comes to mind outside the context of the current battle shoot me a PM and we'll discuss it.

The Story So Far

Outrage!
The Legatus Praeco has been murdered while travelling the Wilderness to deliver summons to the next Forinthry Conclave to all the major tribes and factions. Information is scarce but the Red Storm (of whom the Praeco was a member) is baying for blood. For many of the other factions the Conclave was the only tradition they respected and are equally furious. With accusations rapidly flying between all the factions Lord Pyro has had the site of the murder secured and is calling in any investigators who might be able to resolve this, if this fails the Conclave will be cancelled and Forinthry plunged into civil war.

Log 2

The group of investigators arrived at the scene of the murder where they learned that not just the herald but his entire squad of guards seemed to have been torn apart. Initial signs suggested some sort of animal attack, possibly a pack of hellhounds but on closer examination it was realized that members of the guard were missing and had seemingly stabbed their comrades before fleeing. The group followed a trail of blood only to encounter two monstrous creatures stalking them. After a brutal battle that almost cost them their lives the group managed to slay one of the creatures but the other escaped mostly unharmed.

Upon returning to the Union HQ examination of the dead creature revealed it to be a heavily mutated form of Lycerta, magically created killing machines. The group has now been sent to the Manor of Aura Angelus, creator of the Lycerta's to look for clues as to their sudden reappearance.

The investigator were sent by Lord Pyro to the house of the notorious lord, general and occasional magical experimenter Aura Angelus. From the moment the group arrived they faced fierce opposition from the building's defenses (to say nothing of the fully grown Lycerta in the bedroom).

But the biggest challenge would be treachery from within when one of their own (a Northern Marauder) almost succeeded in murdering Danny Steel by pushing him into a pit full of the Lycerta monsters (certain death if regrettably not instant). The man then attempted to burn the house down to destroy any evidence that may have been there.

The mercenary was successfully arrested which raised a political firestorm from all sides, with demands ranging from his release to his instant execution being sent to Lord Pyro. Ultimately it was decided there was no other option than to hold a court trial to determine his guilt as judged by King Matthew.

The Trial of the second-in-command of the Northern Marauders a man known only as Mason began with the factions all but at each others throats. The head of the Marauders lead the case for the Defense, understandably furious at the arrest of a close friend. The charge was Treason, a crime punishable by death even in lawless Forinthry.

The Crown accused Mason of attempting to murder Lord Pyro's personal servant Danny Steel by pushing him into a pit filled with Lycertas and of attempting to burn the house down containing vital information about the creatures. The Crown also asserted that these acts were part of an effort to derail the investigation into the murder of the Legatus Praeco. The Defense's main claim was that the accused appeared confused and claimed to have no memory of the events witnessed by several people suggesting mind control.

The Defense argued its case with skill and ferocity but the evidence was overwhelming. Lord Pyro personally examined the accused and could find no sign of magical control. The final nail in the coffin was when it was discovered the accused had in fact been part of the Legatus Praeco's escort at the time of the murder, one of only two to survive the attack.

Lord Pyro was about to pass sentence on the accused when she was once again possessed. The controlling force used its power to rip apart the guards before revealing itself as the same entity the Kingdom had seen possess another in the past. One believed to be associated with the Cult of Tak. The entity displayed that it had the power to harm even Lord Pyro before it was forced to depart. The Northern Marauders were about to leave, angry at the proceedings when a messenger came in announcing that an Cult of Tak army was marching or their home. Lord Pyro made amends by pledging his personal support in the coming battle.

The battle was a victory, the cult slaughtered in droves by the rulers of Forinthry. In fact possibly the victory was too successful, leaving countless cultists dead and none captured. Some of the army did survive and retreat but they have now vanished, lost even to the surveillance of Lord Pyro.

While the enemy has been beaten back temporarily Forinthry should not be complacent. With no leads left Lord Pyro has ordered that several of his agents attempt to infiltrate the Cult of Tak so that Forinthry can begin retaliatory strikes against the enemy. It should be assumed that this will be incredibly dangerous as the investigators walk into the lion's (ok homicidal maniac's) den.

Meanwhile in the rest of Forinthry the chaos has not stopped, disappearances have become more common, attributed to the new predator within the kingdom. Lord Pyro is offering 1,000 gold for each Mutated Lycerta head brought to him and 50,000 for information on how and where so many are being created.

A team of volunteer investigators managed to infiltrate a base of the Cult of Tak. Inside they discovered a large cavern filled with holding pens of the Mutated Lycerta monsters that were plaguing the kingdom. On stage a rally was given describing the perfect world of the Cult, a nightmare to the rest of the world.

This mission confirmed what Lord Pyro had long suspected, the Cult was working for a hidden master, almost certainly the same powerful entity that had approached the kingdom in the past. Unfortunately the mission took a serious turn for the worse when they met with the groups spokesman for some discrete questions. One of the group, a volunteer from the Godless went mad, attacking the man and essentially blowing the groups cover. They were in a remote part of the base but with a guard having escaped it was only a matter of time before the Cult was alerted.

With the clock ticking the Godless member continued his crazed crusade by attempting to torture the prisoner for information. Though incredibly resilient the man eventually gave up the location where the Lycerta were being produced in bulk, Deamonheim. Thanks to the quick thinking of Yselt Aren the team were able to escape and report their fortunes but Lord Pyro bluntly refused to attack Deamonheim.

The attack on the Northern Marauder base turned out to be just the beginning. The Cult of Tak is in full scale war with Forinthry, sending hundreds of Mutated Lycerta out each day. Zamorak's Union had this threat contained, until the day the first Lycerta learned how to shapeshift wings.

With their enemy now able to fly the situation has gotten out of hand with Lycerta running rampant through the Wilderness and now encrouching on Misthalin, Asgarnia, Zarosia and the Fremennik lands.

To combat this Lord Pyro convened a summit inviting several lords and leaders of religious militant groups (e.g. Godless, Guardians of Armadyl) to consider the growing threat. There was an immediate pledge of support from these leaders once they understood the threat faced. But still Lord Pyro would not commit to an assault on Deamonheim, the cult's base of operations.

It was revealed that this was due to a prophesy that predicted that if war ever came to Deamonheim it would unleash the "World Destroyer" on the world. The summoned leaders agreed to use restraint for now but there were some unhappy with the idea.

To his surprise Lord Pyro was told of a member of a new race had come to Forinthry. He was delighted when he learned this "satyr" shared a heritage with the fairies that gave her a natural connection to nature.

With her assistance he was able to fully understand how the Mutated Lycerta's were linked to the nature of the Wilderness itself. Tracking this back to Deamonheim, Lord Pyro found a way to get past the defenses now in place around the mountain and telepathically project himself there. When he did he was confronted by a figure, some form of the World Destroyer that could interact with them. It was clear what he said terrified Lord Pyro as he revealed his identity to him. Unfortunately Lord Pyro has not been able to reveal what he has learned.

He was struck by the figure and has fallen out of conciousness and has yet t
