OOC Intro

Welcome to the Grand Melee Tournament, I am your host, Syncreticeye. Here you find the chance to prove your character's worth as a fighter and gain some fame and wealth. This is also a great opportunity to improve on your own skills in rp combat and learn from others. However, most importantly, you are here to have a good time and have some fun - there are no true losses here, just the gaining of knowledge and memories.


The way this whole shindig will go:

There will be two separate events, one with just swords + shield or defender (optional), and one with any melee weapon(s) of your desire. No magic or ranged combat is allowed in these whatsoever. You will fill out the application and then will be given replica weapons of those which you wish to use (Essentially you use what you have, they will just be slightly blunted and non magical).

Also, if enough people sign up (like 6 or so) I may make an extra bonus event which consists of all the competitors split into 2 teams in a mass melee.

For the skill rating, this will indicate who you will be matched up against (mainly for Single Sword Combat). Please consider your own ooc experience as well as your characters'. Rating 1 means you are new to rp and rp combat, 10 means you are confident you can beat anyone at any time.

Again, no uses of magic or ranged weaponry whatsoever in any way, shape, or form. IC you will be provided replicas of the weapons you use so there is no need to worry about enchantments.

Referees Wanted!

The main function of this tournament will be run via referees observing each bout. You are allowed to both participate and referee (obviously not at the same time). Ironically, this effort is to eliminate ooc argument by having a bystander, usually ooc-ly, call out when an action is physically impossible or breaks the rules.

However, selection for this is particular. You MUST be unbiased in all circumstances, and both fighters must accept you as their referee. Your reputation may matter a bit here as well, and your selection will depend on a vote.

To express interest in being a referee please note it on your application and your name will be put up for vote. The votes are simply to secure the approval from everyone involved and, unless there is great dissent, you will be confirmed


IC Intro

Aaron Praven had enough of idly managing the county of Khazard, it was time something exiting happened. What soon followed was hundreds of fliers loaded onto each ship leaving Port Khazard. Ship crew were simply told to carry them about, post them, or pass them on - diffusing them throughout most of civilized Gielinor.

These fliers read:

To any warrior worth a damn!

Come test your mettle and see if you really are the greatest fighter around. Khazard is hosting a grand melee tournament pitting the best Gielinor has to offer in head-to-head duels. There will be two events: one consisting solely on mastery of the sword, and the second focused on fighting with whatever the hell you want.

Absolutely no magic allowed!

If interested, put your name on the list by sending a message to Aaron Praven, Count of Khazard describing yourself and your weaponry. You can expect replica weapons to be made specially for this tournament so you needn't worry about breaking your own.

What You Need to Know

1. This tournament will be presided over by referees for every bout (for those that don't know: bout is the term for each individual duel/fight)

2. Bouts are won when your opponent taps out or is completely disarmed for more than a minute.

3. As a combatant you have the right to refuse any referee for your bout, if you believe they may be biased against you

4. Death is not preferable by any means and the referees are in place to prevent this, but may happen if you can't understand when you are beaten.

5. The Single Sword Combat event will be run through direct-elimination brackets to determine final places. The Mixed Combat will be run through a large pool (everybody fights everybody else) to determine final placement.

6. Please try to limit your actions to just a few lines, 2-4 is preferable. We aren't looking at how well you can run your mental thesaurus here, just going for efficiency. Descriptions can be necessary at times in which it is okay.


Rules

1. Be respectful, courteous, and kind. We are here to have fun above all else.

2. Conventional Combat Role-play rules apply, and are to be enforced by Referees. No auto-hitting, godmodding etc.

3. A quote by Delmoran: "Play balanced characters, not gods. No overpowered characters permitted. This means we won't accept instances like Mahjarrat or Demons"

4. If you believe your next action is life-threatening to your opponent, you must make as much clear.

5. The referees are here to settle the rules and reduce all possible instances of OOC bickering and are to remain, in all purposes, unbiased. They are also the final authority for your bout.

6. If you object to every possible referee presiding over your bout then you may be forfeit from the tournament.

7. Add a ! at the end of your application so I know you read the rules. Effective after page 2 (Cuz I just came up with this) "The gods envy us. 4th Place: An undisclosed amount of gold, slightly higher than 2nd and 3rd place allotment.


Recommendation: Go check out Khaine's guides located on page 5 on this forum if you want to familiarize yourself with RP Combat, they will serve as the rule books which we will base decisions off of.
