Did I do anything wrong? Many years before COVID, I was camping. I walked to a cabin in the area I was camping at around midnight and standing a few feet away was a coyote. I stopped walking, faced the coyote and stood there without looking at its eyes. Eventually it ran away back into the woods. I stayed silent throughout this encounter. It didn't bark or howl, it simply stood there for a bit. Anyone else encounter them while camping? What did you do? And I didn't have any coyote spray that time.
Wow, what an experiment
Not many people can have that story to tell
Were you afraid for you life, or afraid of being attacked??
We don't have dangerous wild animals in my country so I don't know the answer even so it sounds like you did the right thing as a lot of wild animals like the chase.
I didn't know there was such a thing as a coyote spray.
You are very brave to experience such a thing and to survive it
A little scared yeah. At least it wasn't a wolf, since it was shorter than a wolf. Based on its fur color it wasn't a dog, and no one camping with us then brought their dogs. A dog would have chased it away.

Nope, no Coyote, but I did have a Raccoon encounter. I usually camped alone in a 2-man Pup Tent in the mountains with a shotgun, just in case.
It was dark and had started raining. There was a nice breeze blowing so I left the flaps open, crawled into my sleeping bag and settled in to do some reading. My shotgun was beside me, loaded with the safety on.
At some point, I turned my lantern off, though I don't remember doing that, and fell asleep. I was rudely awakened by a loud chattering. At first I couldn't place what type of animal was in my tent. I took the safety off the shotgun with one hand and turned the lantern on with the other. There at the foot of my tent was a Raccoon soaked from the rain. I told him, "You may stay the night, but you have got to be quiet." I secured the shotgun, turned off the lantern and settled back into my sleeping bag. Next morning he was gone.
