So my daughter is finally reaching the age where she can play some video games. Naturally, I reached for a Nintendo and Pokémon.

Except... I haven't touched a Pokémon game since Gold/Silver. There are now apparently almost 900 Pokémon and different "forms" of Pokémon. I remember hearing that they introduced breeding and a lot of other content. Which is great, don't get me wrong, but woooww things have changed.

So what are the cool new things to do? What are the favored pokemon now?

If I remember right, my favorite was dragonite...haha...
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

If you have never played the OG diamond and pearl games I would definitely recommend playing the remakes. There is a lot different from Gen 2 games. But for the most part the company that made these remakes stuck very close to the original ds games. The online functions really help with trades and battling compared to old gameboy link cable days (I remember those days). For your starter Pokemon I would suggest Chimchar or Piplup those are my personal favorites. Sinnoh is a beautiful reigion. There is a new thing in the game called the underground mine where you can find some rare pokemon. There's lots to do apart from the traditional story of the game. Like shiny hunting pokemon. :) I would recommend picking it up and trying it for yourself.

The only downsides is that they're D&P remakes and not Platinum thus all the qol updates and story parts that were added with Platinum arent in these remakes :(

So dont into these thinking you'll be able to see the Distortion World in 3D as you wont.

Plus all the helpful updates to the Poketch arent there either.

Besides that, id say they are pretty decent game for what they are and there is a pretty high difficulty curve towards the end especially at the Elite Four + Champion.
