I thought this might have been a joke at first but no - dogs will soon be able to call their owners!
A team of researchers from Scotland and Finland have invented a new gadget that allows pets to call their owners.
Nicknamed the DogPhone, the gadget is a soft ball toy which sends a signal to the owner's laptop, launching a video call, when their pet moves the ball.

Let the puns commence....
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

Why would service animals want to call their owners? It's the other way around.
I think Cat People would be more interested in this and not so much for dog owners. Cat People are crazy about their cats and the antics. How many cat videos do you see about cats and their antics compared to dog videos?

Let's flip a coin; heads I win, tails you lose. Fair enough?
I'm definitely not getting one for my dogs. It'd be a non stop barrage of:
"Are we going out yet? Is it walkies yet? Is it dinnertime yet? Are we going now? Scratch my tummy. Are we going now? Is it nearly dinnertime? Are we ....... "
I'm not interested and neither is my dog. I put toys in his crate and he tosses them out. I give him a toy and he hides it. I bought a vibrating toy that runs on batteries. I put it on the floor, vibrating, he ran the other way.

I'm sure there's some dogs who can benefit from this. Perhaps ones that can be shown dog treats on camera, and let the dog pick which one they want when the owner comes home.
