Just venting at this point. I wish I could tell the world her story. I'll share here for now.
It is with the heaviest and most shattered heart I announce the death of my darling baby girl, Isabelle. She had been experiencing seizures, difficulties walking, tumors... a litany of issues. But she took it in a stride I don't even think I could've myself. She fell asleep in my arms one last time last night.
She came to me on a whim when I was young. Free puppies at a nearby place so we took it up. I named her Isabelle after the hurricane we in the north east experienced back in the early 2000s. And if I only knew just what a hurricane she would be. I mean I knew she was gonna be different when in the first couple months having her she attacked a skunk, opened some beer in the garage and was lapping it down, and just being unlike anything I've ever seen before. And she was the most amazing, best hurricane this world ever had graced. I'll never forget it all. Truly thick as thieves. We grew up together and did everything together. All the times running trying to walk, the playing, the swimming, the falling asleep together on the chair after it all. There's too many moments to put in writing. I'm so thankful.
I never knew it was possible to love a dog this much. She's the closest thing to a daughter I think I'll ever want. And just as a child she took after her old man. She had such a lust for fun, smarter than she had any business being, and tough as muthafukin nails. It made me so proud. Of all the shit I've done wrong in my life, she's the one thing I got right.
I put the other half of my heart to rest tonight and close a 14 year chapter of my life that was the best chapter it's ever known. I love you more than life itself baby girl. I'll wear every scar you've ever given me a bit more proudly. Thank you for everything. I love you and miss you sorely already.
Please ask me about her. I want to share her life.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I've never had a dog but I've had to say goodbye to much loved cats over the years. Its heartbreaking because they are part of your family. Take comfort from the fact she had a good life with you.
I'm sure you did all you could to give her a great life, and that's all that matters. No regrets. Everything comes to an end but at least you have those memories (nobody can take them away from you). We lost our dog last year and I still come home thinking she'll be there. It sucks. I hope it gets easier for you over time.

Hi Motley. Sorry about the loss of your dog. I understand your situation. Animals show unconditional love in a way humans can't. Remember, Isabelle will always be alive in your memories. I say this often, but it's true.
I did read your post the first day but was hesitant to reply it's abit of a sensitive topic..anyway..It is because you had that bond for 14 years, this will take time..I know it's painful. I'm truly sorry that's all I can say... and words on a keyboard isn't enough to convey that.
.What was her favourite game to play?
. What are your fondest memories with her?

I'm sorry for your loss. And I know how it feels to see a family member die.
We had this Schnauzer Toy called Politza (means "pretty" in basque). She lived a happy, loving life for nearly 20 years (very rare for that breed), including lots of sausages in the process. Those were her favorites and she was totally a furry princess eating them with such elegance, holding the sausage with her paws and giving small bites, watching us like
"Oh! Such delightful and unfathomable taste! If I could drink wine I'd do it!
. A true gourmet dog. I miss her, after nine years.
She had similar issues like Isabelle when she got old. She still could move forward (already blind, deaf and her nose barely catched any scent) but she would fall when trying to go right or left, so we had to help her moving around. She had this habit of moving directly to a corner, not knowing what to do next and then bark at us for help. She still ate and took water one day before passing out. Next day she was awake on her bed, but her eyes said everything: she was in good mood somehow, but her "canine aura" was fadding away quickly. She didn't move, but kept relaxed during that morning... like if she didn't want us to be that worried. We called the vet and he did his thing.
Yes, it's possible to love a dog so much. Even more than fellow humans. They share with you happiness, joy, anger, sadness, confusion and even awkwardness... in full amounts. They know when you're down and sometimes they cheer you up or stay at your side for hours.
If I can ask, what was her favorite food?

Take your time to grieve, m8. It's OK to not be OK.
I always found solace in the fact that those who have passed are no longer in pain and clung to the good memories.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

Favorite game? Many. We played a lot... differently... than most people do. We played hard. Swimming, running around the house for hours. chasing me on the bike. She liked to swordfight, wherein I'd attack her with a stick and shed chomp down on it and tug of war it and then I'd swing her around where she literally was airborne holding on till she'd lose her grip and go flying and come back for more. It sounds like abuse saying it like that but I promise it wasn't.. She loved it, and was tough as hell so it was just fun. During the cold months we'd play in the snow with the sled and snowballs of course. In the summer it was always fun to get the water hose out and spray her and she'd just attack the water and get soaked.
Fondest memories. Too many to name lol. One time we had to put her inside cause the parents didn't like her hair clogging the pool filter. So I put her inside and started swimming. Come up for air and I see her hanging halfway out the kitchen window. She wanted to come swim so bad that she jumped up onto the sink (twice her height) and knocked the window screen out and was going to drop like 7 feet to the ground had I not rushed over and caught her in time. She also was able to climb the ladder herself. I never met a smarter dog. She could open doors to let herself out too. She had to go everywhere with me so we'd also go up on the house roof in the summer and just chill.
Also one time when I was really mad she got all tender and cuddled me. And when I broke my leg the first night I came home she refused to leave my bedside. Later on it was funny because as I was able to walk again I'd limp and she would limp after me as if to mock me. Hilarious. There are more. I'll never have another dog like her.
She had many. I'm a pretty decent cook so she always got scraps of what I'd make. Some of her favorites were my breakfast scramble that consisted of bell peppers, cheese, eggs, spinach, kale, etc. She also loved my salmon and brussel sprouts. Beef merlot she really liked. As well as Shepards pie. Can't blame her they're all solid recipes. As for desserts, just like her old man, her favorite were pumpkin roll and creme brulee.
I also dipped my toes in a lot of exotic meats because I enjoy trying new things. So she was able to sample, emu, ostrich, venison, duck, elk, wild boar, kangaroo, alligator, rabbit, frog, yak, bison, antelope, lamb... the list goes on and on.
She had the most cultured palate of any dog in the world. She didn't know it. But she did.
