I was conducting some business online when I was redirected to another website that started out:
elawyehttps://
and then the name of the company. I have never seen anything written before the https://. What does
elawye
mean? Is it a trusted site?

Sometimes when a page is loading something the cursor may hop and you may not have intended to type there, but it hopped up there and your typing ended up in front of the url.

The only URL-prefixes I know of are http, https and ftp. There may be others I don't know of, but I'm quite certain none would even be that long. In tech language you would abbreviate an abbreviation if it did become that long.

If you're still concerned, reload the site and fill it out again and see if the same thing happens again.

Either it was an accidental input on your part (as Jinx mentioned - I think this is most likely) or there is a bug in the website you were browsing that mangled the URL scheme. If you actually tried to open that URL it wouldn't load because 'elawyehttps' is not a valid protocol recognized by any web browsers.

I typed in the web address that was given to me over the phone. I typed in the address exactly as was given to me, which started as: https. Instead of getting their webpage, I got a redirect link to click on, as stated above. I didn't click on it because it looked too unusual.

I went back to the original web address and got the same redirect. I called the company back and told them what I saw. He said that the original web address he gave me was taken down and a link added to the new address. He gave me the old address because he couldn't remember the new one, since it happened very recently.

I told him that the link looked too suspicious and someone needs to look into it. He told me to call their technical department about that. I told him that it was his job to call them, not mine. I hung up on him.

I'll find another company to do business with.

If your unsure of any site, use sandboxie, nothing can effect your computer using that, it's isolated web browser.

I mainly just use adblockers and disable javascript, seems to bypass 99% of bad stuff. I also HTML edit websites to unhide the real links, some sites have invisible redirects i delete ;)
