I think a title similar to this already exists.

To start - I think I know what many of you are going to say "try a different forum site" and I hear you; I posted the question which follows on Quora.

The question in mind is this-
Why is it that computers can run games like Skyrim or Fallout that use 10's of thousands of assets but when I try to make a video game it can't handle 150 trees out of 3 varieties and a (mediocre) landscape?

Surely someone in these forums may have an answer.

The reason I ask is because in my mind, the final product which is the game would more more resource intensive than the development process where everything is static and simplified while the final product is essentially a living (virtual) entity. Wouldn't the latter require more of whatever it uses?

You get better chances to attract players in a computer game rather on a console plus that internet is also limited on consoles, if you don't have internet! Almost every computer is connected to internet so there is all the players!

I know nothing much about video game designs but i have come a cross in earlier years about 'game engines', that maybe what the differences are maybe.

^reason many games share the same graphic styles.

those 2 games you mentioned run the Bethesda Engine, I haven't seen any badly rendered games in this, can't say the same for unreal engine tho.

What jagex uses, i have no idea. These engines have limits we can assume.

I feel like a loser for saying i would buy Runescape for my Xbox for an OFFLINE play through of RS WITHOUT as much xp required to level up. AND if it had improved graphics camera angle, combat ect.
