Topic: Inflation

Give alchables more purpose other than to bring gold into game or be disassembled into components. I feel like components aren't sought after half as much as they could be, which gives people more reason to high-alch. Can we change this? Should we want to change this?

Eg:
Have necromancy use salvage to give temporary defensive boosts to our horde (or whatever they're called, zombie minions! you know what I mean). That way we can clear the game of 'gold injecting' items, similar to how invention did the same thing! Can we foresee any issues with this? If not, and you can think up similar ideas, please leave it in the comments!

PS: with this suggested change, if people still wanted to high-alch their items, they could, it's just another option that could discourage gold injection. Why? some players aren't that bothered about gold, they'd save time or prefer buffs to aid bossing or speed up their skilling.

#2 (thoughts / ramblings)

Consumables (or items that we have to 'charge' to use) are the way to go IMO. There's so much content on RS giving us permanent rewards for engaging with it, that once everyone unlocks the rewards it becomes dead content.
- Example: Hets Oasis farming update, I wonder how many people are still doing their daily herbs for points now that most people have unlocked everything. If the boosts were temporary, there'd be more engagement over time. And since it's connected with the supply of herbs or use of seeds, I predict farming herbs in the future will be very profitable (low supply). Perhaps this was intentional! it plays into afk-scape (which I'm all for). Hmm...

I'd like them to test temporary rewards. Next time Jagex plans on releasing content with permanent rewards, they ought to try 'leasing' them (or a few) instead! Eg: for a week or two. See if people engage with the content longer, see that they come back to it (if the buffs are worth it to them). And if they like the rewards but don't like the content, guess what, they only have to engage with it once a week. I think they'd get better analytics or feedback of what players like or dislike. And there'd be a steady(er) supply of items from said updates.

...

I know this 2nd post doesn't have anything to do with 'alchables' but my emphasis here is on 'consumables' (things consuming time or gold to give us temporarily benefits) eg: food, runes, potions, etc. I feel like this 'model' (?) is better for the economy (supply-wise) and can increase engagement with more/various types of content: something people moan about.
- EG - what if minigames gave temporary boosts? would that encourage people to engage with those more frequently? It's a common complaint, not finding groups. Just an idea.

But back to the main point: Could we hit two birds with one stone and change salvage?

I support, maybe this could be used to stop so many items from falling below alch value lol.

I'd like to see more uses for things like the basic 4 Fremmenik helmets, godsword shards, dragon armor, etc too
