If there is a tab in the bank for the Goldberg there is no cons, you'd take as many runes as you want out of your bank and deposit them into the Goldberg slot, then it would use those runes up and wouldn't take from your bank. There can even be a toggle if you want it to take from your bank primarily instead, or secondarily after the runes in the storage are used up. So you can have it so it takes runes from your Goldberg storage, and when they run out then it takes from your bank, or you can have it so it won't use any runes if they aren't in your storage. So it can be interchangeable so there are enough different settings that the cons would be more difficult to find.
Another fix they could do even if they didn't do this, is treat the Goldberg like it has a placeholder when you are out of runes of a certain type, because when you run out of runes training magic, go to the Goldberg and the runes aren't there so you can't see if those runes would have worked in a slot, that gets a bit annoying.
Even that is a reason to do it, that you deplete your runes training magic to the point you don't know if they would have worked and so you have to be conscientious about how much of each rune type you have, or you're going to have to make a senseless trip to restock up a rune that wouldn't have worked for the slot anyways.
If you don't have to have enough runes as are needed to know if it would work, there is no reason you should have to have any to know if it would work.
