If an OP loses interest in their thread and they want it to disappear, what's to stop someone else from bumping it. When the OP doesn't have any interest in their thread, no one should be able to stop it from going away. This way no one is keeping something you've lost interest in around. As somebody who has had a few threads, I know if I don't want my thread to be bumped I wouldn't be happy if someone else was bumping it, and that is a privilege as somebody who has made a few threads I could empathize with, some people just can't.

Some people just abuse the privilege. And so the OP should at least be given the option to be the only person who can bump their thread. I know some people say, well that was a nice change not having to bump my thread, sometimes that's not what they say apparently.
It's nice to know who is bumping the threads, and if the OP is the only one who is, we know it's them. We can take a guess at who is bumping the threads, which sometimes wouldn't be too difficult; but this way we always know it is the OP. So no one is volunteering us when we don't want to be volunteered.

To be honest, if an OP wants their thread to disappear, then they can simply leave a post on Forum Help asking for a mod to lock their thread.
That way no one will be able to bump it anymore and it'll eventually fade away into obscurity until it at last gets eaten by the page 51 monster.

Likewise, if they do eventually regain interest in it before that happens though, they can also ask a mod at the linked thread to unlock it again.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

That's fair. Letting people bump their own threads is just common courtesy though, and people seem to be abusing that they are deemed mature enough to let them do that. It's one thing to want your thread closed, and it's another just to let other people's threads have time to be seen before burying them, which is a courtesy the ones who do that also respect.

Again, it's also nice if your thread is bumped, because you, the OP, wanted it bumped.
