Hi,

Brief : Addition of optional (user toggle:able in settings Voice over (TTS) AI for NPC dialogues.

Just had an idea that popped up in my mind regarding accessibility to the game. With the recent hype around AI there has been some great tools highlighted that are basically TTS (text to speech) that can mimic different types of voices. Be it deep, high, masculine, feminine you get the gist. What if there was a in game tool that allowed you to voice over every dialog especially in quests in order to improve immersion.

There have been some show of some 3:rd party mods on other MMO's as an example that implement this, while i understand that there might be some licensing issue with running GPT I still think that this idea could be investigated. Example of how this can work can be seen in this YouTube link for example.

I have seen that there has been some previous threads touching on the subject of voice acting and that there are several implications regarding that including and not limited to cost, not as much time for editing and timing issues. And found that this might be a good compromise. This is something I haven't yet found in the forums hence my post.

Cheers,

I mean what I was initially trying to imply that you could make a "wrapper" framework that would just parse text that the dialogue box displays. It's not like a dialogue box displays wrong text when it changes, right?

Bumping this.

Even over the last six months, AI voice over technology has become even better. This would certainly help with Jagex's DEI efforts and Accessibility commitments. I think it's a low-cost, easy win for the games and a personalization touch that would make in-game experience even better and closer to what is on the marketplace today, appealing to a wider and younger gaming audience.

For work, I've been working with WellSaid Labs – an AI voice over product – for video voice over. Even subtle differences in accent and personality go a long way. It's quite an impressive an opportunity for the game.

The player personalization of your voice – either choosing a voice that you'd like for your character or speaking into your microphone for AI to match a sample of your voice – would improve in-game player experience. These type of features could always be turned off for players who prefer the experience without.

Lastly, I think there needs to be an overhaul on certain visual and non-visual elements to really make the game more Accessible. Mainly, improvements to text and icon size and color contrast settings across the board, closed captions, and audio narration.

I really do hope changes like this could be implemented within the game in the next few years. Thanks for bringing this up Knack Knack!

Could be polled next year. Let's see the general consensus on such a update. I remember this being used in wow where a specific quest would say your character's name with a AI long before AI's were put in the spotlight and there's a thread where someone else experienced the NPC saying their character's name so the tech does exist and it does have a place in rs3 plus it could save jagex money by using AI to voice characters off a sample.
