Simple premise: remove the minigame aspect and modify it into a monthly D&D

Lore: Murphy hasn't had much luck these last few years getting adventurers to help him. and he is getting older, so is his ship. So he's going to go about recruiting a crew the old fashioned way, but he is going to need help from a limited partner to help provide capital on a monthly basis to help keep the operation going.

Mechanics:

Players will have an A/B option interface where each choice will impact the amount of Fishing XP or the size of the haul you get.

For example:

an A + A option = maximum fishing XP, but smallest fish haul

a B + B option = maximum fish haul, but smallest fishing XP awarded

a A+B or B+A option = somewhere in between

Base action = the player doesn't actually do anything for this. It is the base award

Fishing XP Impact = Small XP lamp

Fishing Haul Impact = some fish awarded


Action #2 = GP given options 1-4. Murphy needs the initial investment to go out and hire a crew. This option will have the greater impact sliding the scale towards the haul or XP.

If you choose for Fishing XP, Fishing XP Impact = Murphy pockets a chunk of the GP and goes out to hire a crew that would work more for beer than money. They won't catch much, but Murphy will let you in on more trade secrets and Fishing know-how.

If you choose for catch, Fishing Haul Impact = Murphy will go out and get the best crew he can afford. The experience earned is distributed among the crew, but everyone wins with an increased haul.


Action #3 = Boat repair option. You can improve the handling of the boat or improve the nets. Player will need some materials to "repair" either option, but not both.

If you choose for Fishing XP, Fishing XP Impact = The player will use Construction to fix the hull of the ship and make some other random improvement. The boat will handle a lot better on the water making things easier for the crew. This will award the player a small to medium XP lamp worth of Construction XP, and a small to medium XP lamp worth of Fishing XP

If you choose for catch, Fishing Haul Impact = The player will use Crafting to mend and improve the nets. This will help increase the haul on the total number of fish and quality caught. This will award a small to medium XP lamp worth of Crafting XP, and 25-50% of the Fishing XP you would have earned with the other option.

If the player isn't in the mood (or really doesn't care what they get), the player can let Murphy make all the decisions after you give him some GP. The XP or fish haul however will be randomized.

Rewards:

This actually doesn't change too much from the current minigame.

- As this is a monthly D&D, the Fishing XP awarded will scale to your level and depend upon the selections you make

- XP in Crafting or Construction depending on the option you took with the boat

- Raw fish types you get depending on your Fishing Level and quantity dependent on the selections you made.

- Junk item rewards are removed from the reward list

- Shark Teeth for the Shark Tooth Necklace are still awarded, but now the Shark Teeth can be found in many Fishing Activities, Fish Flingers, and anything else that is applicable. (Or could be like the chisels from God Statues and it takes several months to get the Teeth for a necklace.)

Other Mechanics:

- gets added to monthly reset token

- Ardougne exploration/achievement now simply requires the player to send out 1 voyage with Murphy (removing the play a 'minigame' requirement)

- Soundtrack for Trawler is now unlocked when you arrive at Port Khazard

- Fishing Trawler is removed from Minigame Spotlight list and the Thaler shop is removed from that location, Fishing Trawler D&D is added to D&D list.

I agree this needs updating bad. Its kinda old, clunky and could do with some love. Tbh some of the older mini games could maybe be combined and rolled into one in some instances. Maybe they could combine trawler with some trouble brewing elements.

Sounds like a good idea - I particularly like the idea of hiring drunk fisherman to work with me :-P , it's very RuneScape-y Things may be looking down now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel;
