@Shaggy Anon: Hi there!

I'm so sorry that you went through and fell for this scam. Jagex Moderators will NEVER message you in-game to invite you to become a Player Moderator. This process is entirely completed through your private Message Centre that only you can access. Furthermore, Jagex Moderators will always have the word "Mod" before their names and a golden crown will always accompany this name. Considering that the person lacked both, it should have been a read flag that this was a scam/hijack attempt.

If you wish to learn more about Player Moderators, you may look at this thread created by Mod Gambit: Player Moderators . It contains all the details that you may need to know about Player Moderators, their duties and how to become one.

If you wish, you are more than welcome to forward the player's name and situation to Jagex using the [email protected] email address. They will investigate the issue and take any necessary actions against the player in question, if applicable. Just know that this is a no-reply email address, which means that they will NOT individually respond to you, but they will definitely check what you will share with them.

As for the security of your computer, registered email address and RuneScape account, I highly suggest you read the following Support guides in order to improve their overall security settings:

Computer security: Securing your computer
RuneScape account security: Securing your account
Email security: Keeping your email secure

As for the P-Mod that stood by you, that's why they are considered community champions. Thanks to them for staying with you during this unfortunate event :) !

To MRS ANA, thank you so much for the information you have provided above as for red flag yes I should have known immediately that it was a scam the fault lies and solely myself. I will indeed be going over all the forms and the information links you have provided me that you can be assured of! Moments after I had given up my information paranoia or a red flag definitely hit my mind and I tried to take steps immediately to prevent what had happened from my own willingness and eagerness to become a mod. With that said I understand and I believe that a mod position would definitely not suit me in any shape or form, it truly hurts to admit this to myself but I don't hold a right to such a position. Realization and now self-awareness of how little I understand of the workings of my favorite game in the world even though I consider myself and Advent player. Instead of putting in so many hours a day of grind and skill I need to put forth time and effort into understanding what I consider a second life outside of IRL. Unfortunate as it may have been this is an eye-opener to myself and I myself could not have taken action such as this mod had taken action. It really is amazing how the mods in this game have the understanding and self-awareness to throw themselves into a crisis to help out their fellow players and community. I will strive to learn more about my favorite game in the world as well as how I may help others, I will definitely deliver the name and I leave I still have the email address that the fake Jagex support staff used although I would rather not click on the email again that's for damn sure! I am still quite worried and wary that my account may still be in harm's way but that just may be me and paranoia. I would like to understand how they were able to exceed the chat box limit as well as being in a world that does not exist for the players, and that is another reason I wanted to make others aware of what happened to me because once you see that it becomes You never really quit RuneScape, your only AFK for now. See u soon!

Quite convincing even without a mod crown which you are absolutely correct should have been the first giveaway and honestly it was. I am actually quite ashamed of myself for allowing such a thing to happen and can place blame on no one else but myself. Though it really does my heart good to know that the mods not only have our backs but are willing to put aside their own interests for the interest and well-being of the community! this being said I shall throw myself into the inner workings of how to help others if I can keep this from happening! I appreciate your words of kindness and I appreciate you taking your time out to help me as well I would like to say thank you very much it is well appreciated! I wish you a wonderful day and to all the mods out there helping our community I wish you all a wonderful day as well!
Thank you again,

It looks like you've found good help both in the game and on the Forums :)

A couple of things. Player moderators are not permitted to identify themselves as such on the Forums, as there is no way on the Forums to verify the claim. Therefore other players should not be identifying P Mods on the Forums either.

Your thread title has been edited to removed the P Mods Name, and the first post is hidden, but quoted below with the name removed.

Additionally, the Forums may not be used to make accusations or report rule breaking behavior about another player by name. That needs to be reported in-game at the time of the incident. As your second post names the scammer, it also has been hidden and is quoted below with that name removed.

I've also removed your latest post about your security issues, as you are now receiving excellent help with that in the Community Led Account Help Forum, and I'd hate for that to take this thread off-topic.

Again, I'm glad you're finding the help that you need :)

Day before yesterday I fell for a scam, they harvested my information my friends list and could have taken everything. Fortunately paranoia kicked in right after and I changed my passwords from a different source other than my phone. I activated authenticator and search through 40 different worlds looking for a mod, needless to say some runescapers need to cultivate some manners! I was freaking out, an entire year gone into this account and as I was getting bashed by other players (I had a few choice words for them not nice) a silver crown mod showed up. Mod [Edit] told me to PM her/him (sorry not sure) and explain what had happened to me and why I was so upset. I explained I got a a convincing message from Jagex support telling me they would like to offer me a position as a community mod. Needless to say a dream come true for me I was a little skeptic, but here's what made it legit to me. This person in question had no limitation in chat and was speaking with full paragraphs, I checked location and they are on world 1,000 +. They knew about my activities in the forms my post and some achievements, it was so so real. Against better judgment I fell forward hook line and sinker. As I logged into my account and went to my bank my PIN had been completely deactivated without my consent almost as if I never activated one, as I explained all this to [Edit] she/he quickly took charge and jumped in for damage control. Stayed online with me and helped me through all the resets for account passwords email and authenticator. The entire time reassuring me we were going to get through it.
