I left this game over a year ago because the community wasn't that big. At best, there would be 80,000ish people online at peak hour. Now it's 167,000. Is that consistent? If so, is the Rs community finally thriving?
When I played this game a year ago there was barely anyone to talk to in-game. Or everyone would just be off in their own little worlds. People didn't really interact.

The player counter counts both RS3 and OSRS. RS3 has about 40k players on average, OSRS has about 105-120k players.
The reason why there are so many people playing now? Covid.
The addition of mobile OSRS boosted the player count significantly, as did streamers and video makers over the years. A lot of people still keep to themselves, but that's improved somewhat as the player base has increased. You won't find hundreds of people in Lumbridge on a F2P world like the old days, but the GE can be pretty popular in w330 or w302.
Covid definetly had a positive factor for the player amount on both RS versions which is logical.
Looking at myself I came back because I got a bit bored during the lockdown only to find out a new skill just released (great timing by the way) which got me in to activly playing again.
Let’s hope some people (including myself) keep playing after this whole Covid situation is over!
The fact that more people are playing also keeps me into the game to be honnest.
