So much to say, so much to do.

After 15-ish years I find it's time to write about it. Years of bank standing, escaping from the real world, spending time with friends and foes, learning and communicating. This game has been close to a third parent. To this day I still feel like Runescape has been a teacher in English, social skills and general life experience. It is not "just a game" or "just pixels" to me and I think alot of other veterans who grew up with Runescape. I would like to share some thoughts and experiences RS has brought me. For others to read and share memories or perhaps just for myself to eternalize them.

Quests
It still baffles me how many players don’t like, or straight up hate, questing. The thoughts, time, narratives and storytelling in the quests are like no other MMO. It is never “Go kill 100 of these creatures. Good job, now kill 100 of this one.” It is always connected to a story.

Sixth grade
This was back when it was still a browser game. It was the end of the school year and Runescape was booming. We had an afternoon to spend for ourselves in school. I kid you not, 20 out of the 25 children, including myself, went straight to the media room/computer room. We all played Runescape for an hour or 3 until school ended for the summer. 20 pc’s in a row just displaying Runescape and hanging out together comparing our stats and gear. It’s an experience I will never forget.

Losing my account
Ofcourse we all have a low point in our Runescape careers. For me it was losing my account to a permanent ban. I returned online after a weekend only to find myself standing in Lumbridge castle. We all know what that means… Losing my H’ween set and gear was a blow, but nothing compared to the permanent ban I received the day after. “Real world trading” was the offence given.
Not only had I lost quite alot of value, I lost the whole account. The account I got from a friend whom had entrusted me with it while battling cancer, leukemia. He lost the battle 2 years later. The account I had of him, permanently banned and lost. It hit home and I’ve quit for quite some time.
I have appealed for it just about every 6 months for the following years to no avail. It is still ticking me off just writing and thinking about it again.

EOC
In the time I had quit, EOC released. When I came back I actually thought it was great. Finally some abilities and more to do while in combat. No clue it was the toughest blow in RS history, playerbase-wise. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

Content updates
New quests, events, bosses are released regularly. Updates are clearly communicated and sometimes even polled. I know of no other MMO who has such tight connection between development and it’s community.

It will always be a love and hate relationship, as we now notice with the upcoming release of Fresh Start Worlds. I would just like to share, and I think I speak for alot of people here when I say, we appreciate that the company is open about this and hears the feedback provided. Even though it sometimes may appear as straight up hatred, it is not personal and I am confident i twill straighten out pretty quick after. With the exception of some rotten apples ofcourse.

Thank you for the experience, lessons and ‘GZ’ on 300m accounts and onwards to the next 20 years!
