I might be feeling a bit down about the rewards from the Yak to Basics Yak Track, but I believe in giving credit where it's due, so here goes:
The progression on this particular Track, for the most part, feels like a welcome, marked improvement over previous Tracks. There's a lot of tasks which give players freedom to choose how they go about completing them. There's lots of "Skill and Kill" and "Kill Monster" tasks this time around, which is always nice, but the recent focus on shifting certain skilling tasks during the past few tracks (Construction, Smithing, the new Hunter tasks, etc.) from "Do X number of Y" to "Earn X amount of XP" has also made a lot of the other tasks feel significantly less tedious.
The sense of freedom that a lot of these tasks give compared to the old ones cannot be overstated. If I want to do a Smithing task, I can now do anything from Smithing for profit to smelting bars and Cannonballs to making burial armour if I want the task done fast. I can top up my Chinchompas, Grenwall Spikes, or Skillchompas, or do Big Game Hunter for profit, when a Hunter task shows up. Hell, if I get a decent Gorajo card for Dungeoneering and feel the urge to do a Daemonheim run, I can do that and knock off a decent chunk of progress on these tasks in the process.
The result is that, even though I don't really care about most of the cosmetics this time around, the amount of passive progress is still making the act of working my way up the Track feel fairly entertaining. More of this, please!
