Hey, I'm here to ask for some advice on a situation that I'm in. I bought some Golden partyhats after they first came out. I bought four of them for a total of 1,147,794,000 (two for 319,972,000 each, one for 309,850,000 and one for 198,000,000). I've been waiting a long time for these to go up in price so that I can make a profit. They are now only worth a total of 460M approximately so I lost 700M.

I still have 1053M cash and four Golden partyhats which is about 1500M all together. I'm just wondering what I should do to make a profit. I could sell the partyhats and buy two Easter eggs or a Pumpkin or a Christmas scythe maybe. I could keep the partyhats and buy one Easter egg.

What should I do to make a profit? Any advice or suggestions are highly appreciated.

take the gp you have, buy a bond(s) become a member, buy armour/gear and pvm.



you'd be dumb to continue to invest your gp into more useless items.


those were just being used as gp holders, now with the max cash being 2,147,483,649,147,483,647 gp nobody cares about those items.


real merchers can make 4x in a week what "rares" could make in a month, and merchers aren't going to tell you what to buy. so, since you're inexperienced go the pvm route then. Don't trust any pc's listed, any advice or talks between posts on ID forums anymore , the Manips are let loose, especially the main one with 15+ accounts posting acting as different people.. do your own research

Ultimately it will depend; what are your goals? What do you need the money for?

I have no faith that this will age well at all... but I'll disagree with the above 2. Think the drop in prices have much more to do with a trio of things

1) new skill coming out, people need cash and other items

2) dxp weekend coming up, people need cash and other items

3) panic because of the GE max cash lift. Golden Party Hats did not fall under that volume bug that was plaguing the other rares because they actually had enough volume to update prices. Yet when the max cash update went in, volume more than doubled for a while

I don't know of anyone that was using them to replace cash. They were never over max cash and were traded much more than the others because of the amount in the game. And plenty over the GE as well.

But I highly doubt you're going to get the 300M+ prices you paid for a couple of them any time soon.

Think of it this way: how much is 400M to you? If it's a lot, and you need the money, then sure go ahead and sell. If it's not then I don't see why you wouldn't hold on to them.

Take an unlikely scenario where these double within 2 months. You got an extra 400M by holding on. Could you have made an extra 400M another way by selling now, say by getting some critical PVM upgrades? It's all up to you

I plan on getting my prayer level from 95 to 99. I also need to buy a Praesul Codex to unlock level 99 curses. I don't know how much all of that is going to cost but I only have 1B cash and four Golden partyhats. I still have level 90 equipment to continue doing slayer.

I'd honestly echo 200M's advice - Sometimes we need to "stop loss". There are modern PVM methods where players can make 75m-80m/hr or more. You may strongly consider reallocating wealth to some affordable gear and try learning how to PVM. As you continue to gain wealth, you may reallocate some into rares/collectibles.

The deflation with the GE tax, along with the upcoming skill as Pirate mentioned are very valid pressures in affecting rare prices.
