With GP fixed, it would effectively become a discontinued item. GP would, over time, no longer be used as a currency and would effectively become a commodity. Sometimes we see multiple red santas traded for a BSH, but most trades/sales are in GP/Shards.
Time and increasing players would share the same type of positive correlation in the below noted trends, so increasing player counts would just increase the trends mentioned below.
You could say that the buying power would technically go down over time because it would not be used as a currency as much anymore due to its own increasing value. It would be like spending antique coins at face value rather than selling them and using the new currency to get more value. The "antique GP" would lose its utility as a currency over time.
You could also say that the buying power would go up over time because the GP's individual value would go up. GP could be sold for more currency (whatever the new currency would be) therefore yielding more buying power. If no currency existed, GP could be bartered for more goods which would give greater buying power than a past barter for less goods. 4 goats would be worth less than 20 goats, assuming they are all equally valuable goats.
