In January I calculated the number of hard, elite and master clues completed since Feb 2018, using the Hiscores, and put it into an excel so anyone interested could see. Here is the QC for original thread 17-18-824-66199235.

I decided to do it again to see how many more clues have been completed since then.
Here are the results, I tried to make it easy to compare but you might have to open the pictures on full screen to see the numbers clearly, because they're quite small.

Hard clues

Elite clues

Master clues

So it looks like hard/master clues are becoming increasingly popular while elite clues are staying the same.

The number of hard/master clues completed in the last 4 month make up over 20% of the total number of clues completed in the last 39 months. Which suggest hard/master clues are becoming more popular as time goes on.

An additional note regarding the total amount of items obtained.
When calculating the amount obtained, I didn't take into consideration the re-roll mechanic. So the total amount of rare items obtained is surely higher than what I have put in the table, I'm not sure by how much, but I can't imagine it would be more than 20%.
Next time I redo this, I will include the re-roll mechanic calculation based on the optimal re-roll/gp method

Interesting. If you consider the re-roll mechanic, you could cite a rough estimate of 20%, but I'm not sure how you'd estimate the number of people who purchase re-roll tokens. I personally put all my points on re-roll tokens, but others may choose to buy more clues, etc.

nice! thanks for the great input once again, i do alot of elites but i like to do some hards too.

@zee, is it possible that there is an increase because hards and masters are easier to obtain?. like doing hards, getting masters doing the masters and so on?.
trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

Personally I'm drawn to do more hards now as the rewards compared to the time it takes to do the clues is pretty lucrative - you can nearly (with rerolls) get 1m per clue every single time - when u consider the items you get for fortunate comps

Thanks for this. I wonder if 2a is rare enough to hold its value. I'm not suggesting one way or another; that's just the question when looking at 2a.

It is fun to own exclusive, low supply items.
I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity. :(

Items go down in MMOs generally because of either "Power Creep" (i.e. item value based solely off its usefulness in skilling) or easier ways for the item to enter the game. With extremely rare items like hero items or 2nd age, these two factors aren't a huge issue. Based on these numbers here, it'll take like 30 years before there's even 1k of these 2nd age armor item pieces by type.

Even third-age items haven't been doing so poorly (e.g. wreath is almost 1 bill and 3rd age legs are like half a bill despite them being much higher in supply). Meanwhile, high-end dyes sell for like 6b apiece. GP is just so easy to get these days.
If you are willing to chuck your most precious possessions like phats because someone said words like crashing/dying/quitting and then find yourself unable to rebuy for what you sold for, then you don't deserve to own a phat.

Yeh 2a is certainly rare and quite nice looking. I bought 2a range because I thought it was pretty cool looking.

But it just has not really captured people as an item of exclusivity or something to flex with in the same way dyes have.

It's so rare that most of the RS3 player base doesn't even know about its existence. I was talking to a super active W2 rares flipper called 'citi bank' and she had no idea what 2nd age was.

I'm currently using blue phat + mage set as an ultimate flex.
