I remember back in 2017 it was announced that there were plans to add a cosmetic footprint override effects as a reward from clue scroll loot (leaving a trail of bloody foot prints as you walk, for example.) Mod Mark had mentioned at Runefest 2017 that this was still intended for development, but that there was some complex work that needed to be done before this would be possible. I am posting this thread to ask whether or not this is still being worked on, what complex hurdles might there be, and if this is still in development, what time frame might we be able to expect this reward to be released?

Thank you for your time!

They have no plans to chase these down, last I heard.

I'm guessing we could see them after Mobile and the Bank Rework are done, because those are the most pressing engine-work areas right now.

they clearly wanted it to be in the game but it would stress out the world servers alot. they would also crash in very crowded area's and just making the world lagg more overtime.before ya scream with they should just increase the server capability keep in mind thats not so cheap which could lead to a ton more microtransactions just because of a very small cosmetic feature is that really worth it?

As cool as it would be to see, I think Fell Stalker has a point. Busy areas would become a nightmare to maintain. Passive Support I guess? Community Partner | Working with Jagex to Make the Forums Great Again | Keep an eye out for the

Perhaps coding it as a particle effect and either automatically or allowing other players to manually toggle off said particle effects could reduce latency in crowded areas (i.e. W2 GE and the designated worlds for certain seasonal events during special hours). In any case, this was something advertised at Runefest and then quietly buried with no further explanation in subsequent live streams or news posts. I'd really appreciate more transparency on issues that hit brick walls in development.

It was thrown out on Twitter, just like everything else.

If you're not sorting through hundreds of tweets a day, you won't hear anything nowadays.
