https://old.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/rc2t63/hero_item/

This month old reddit thread is the most recent one I could find where players and jmods discuss their plan for the next hero item. It has indeed been 2 years since the last one so perhaps the next one could come out at any time with any update. It doesn't have to be elder god wars related. Hsr was stealth released and it took 2 months for the first player to receive one so I certainly hope the 5th hero item is silently released and this time jagex keeps its drop rate low instead of slowly increasing it so it stays over max cash street price. We have to wait and see, for now.

Lanieakea is definitely a hero. Her spear released just months ago is an hero item.

Why can't Ariana has a signature staff, Ozan a signature bow and the Raptor a signature sword or shield?

Thok's Stick already exist, but as a skin. What about an actual weapon with dinobane perk?

I brought this up after Mod Osbourne mentioned EGWD bringing a "new hero item" into the game. His response was that he mispoke and was refering to the Pernix Quiver, although the overall stream made it seem like they aren't discounting bringing new ones out in the future....however I think they will be very far and few between as they want to make them prestigious items that players want to hunt/grind for.

Does beg the question, when does something qualify as a "hero item"?

Pernix's Quiver is the current best in slot for the Quiver/Ammo Slot for Damage (the Priff one has the area bonuses around the elven lands, but damage/pvm wise, Pernix is better)

HSR simply occasional doubles a loot drop, statwise, lots of better rings

Orlando Smith's Hat just has a chance of giving you a lower tier casket in addition to the 1 you already have

Tavia's Fishing Rod is mechanically the best in slot fishing rod

Guildmaster Tony's Mattock is the current best Mattock

There are other drops/items in game that would classify the same as a "hero" item ... and even then ... there is a chance that while TODAY it is rare/unique ... it doesn't take much for a dev a few years down the line to release something "better"

To me, Hero Items should be novelty items with extensive lore behind them, not just something named after certain NPCs who don't even feature in the story mode.

Who the hell is Tavia, other than the brief note that she caught a rather irrelevant sea monster in the past? I won't consider it anything heroic at all.

On the other hand, Professor Tony, Hezelmere and Orlando Smith all had some meaningful adventures of their own to tell through quests. We may call them heroes.

I don't like the term "hero items" for those rare and ultra expensive items. Rare and expensive don't mean anyting heroic in most cases. Special items? Maybe, but not really "Hero" Items.
