Thanks to a growing team and improved tools, we're now in a position where as well as tackling sellers, we can also begin to clamp down on buyers. In the next few hours we'll be sending out messages to players we've identified as engaging in RWT.

For anyone who has been involved, we want to be clear – this is your one and only warning.

Should any further RWT activity be detected, accounts face possible bans and wealth removal.

The first step will be the implementation of a staking cap this November. This will limit stake values to no more than 50m GP per duel.

Good job Jagex, this is what we like to hear!

What do you guys think about the 50m duels? Is there anything else they could do?
I worry this might bring back trust trading with middlemen similar to dice games.

I think if they're gonna crack down on RWT, they need to remove bonds from being purchasable with real world money. Hypocritical and I feel the only reason they target RWT is because it's loss of profit for their company on bond purchasing.

Edit:
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for removal of RWT, but I see the hypocrisy in it

Check it out!

I would have preferred shutting down staking entirely; there would have been nothing stopping Jagex from running the DA exclusively for "just for fun" duels only until they're ready to phase it out entirely.

I mean, think about it; they've determined that the DA is responsible for nearly 2/5's of RWT in the game, and were even confident enough to tell us this. Putting a cap on it is only going to slow down the RWT taking place there for the next few months, not stop it. If the plan is to bulldoze the DA in a few months anyway, why bother giving the RWTers a chance for some last minute dealings?

It's largely the fact that RWT is often tied to criminal activity. RWT is used for everything from black market gambling to money laundering; all really bad things that Jagex doesn't want their games to be connected to. Not to mention the direct links between botting and RWT; the vast majority of bots aren't legitimate players trying to gain an unfair advantage, they're accounts used for the sole purpose of selling gold.

(not so) Fun fact: the reason Jagex had to pass the free trade restrictions and removal of dangerous PVP back in '07 was because RuneScape was being used by organized crime to launder money from stolen credit cards using RWT. There were so many bots being funded by stolen credit card information that several major banks threatened to blacklist Jagex entirely if they didn't come up with a way to stomp out the problem immediately because the banks were fed up with having to deal with so many fraudulent charges. Unpopular as those updates were, they were necessary to save the game's life. Black market RWT nearly killed RuneScape less than a decade into its life.

If Jagex is really removing Duel Arena in RS3 instead of just replacing it with a reskinned Sand Casino (e.g. 1 group vs 1 group in lieu of 1 player vs 1 player) then it doesn't matter much if the temporary betting cap is 50 mil or 500 mil.

From today's news, I see no loophole in RS3 as Elder God is hardly related to gambling or player to player trading. :)
