Hi, OK, I am a total noob about these things -

I have read around though and understand I will still be able to use the launcher. -FOR NOW ..

SO , My questions -

1. Is it FOR NOW and later I will have no choice to move to steam?

2. Can I alternate from one to another dependant on which pc I am using? - does the character stay the same? any progress I make in the game is continuous?

3. Why should I move to Steam?

4. Does it mean we are going to have to buy Steam vouchers?

5. In Steam, we get unique cards and things, why? whats the point?if we get them, will we still be able to use them via the launcher?

6. will you continue to give the launcher Nxt as much management and updating as it gets, and more if needed?

7. Will the game play be the same in Steam as the launcher or will things be different?

8. Why cant I get a skilling pet? (Just thought I'd throw that one in there lmao)

Thanks !!!

Just wanted to point out, that whilst many of you will at Jagex who have been working on this behind the scenes will be MEGA excites - many of us who just play the game and dont know anything about Steam will be VERY nervous and unwilling to make this change, particularly as we have no detail. Our characters are precious to us, and we dont want to build a new home if we're settled here lol.

Mugz, an olde and grey rs player.

Velderuum already answered this question in another thread, so I'll quote it here.

Velderuum said :
1: Steam and the NXT client will still be seperate.

2: Steam will have exclusive cosmetics/achievements/trading cards.

3: You are not required to link your account to steam if you wish to play NXT client only.

tl;dr Steam is not needed if you wish to continue playing the game as your used to.

Hope this helps.

In short, you don't have to use Steam if you don't want to. (As for skilling pets, try donating all your coins to the deities of RNG.)

Thank you very much Draudaedolon !

I must admit, that thread I had somehow missed.

I am confused by your use of the words, ; they will be separate - are you saying I cant flip between the two?

if I go play my character on Steam and do some wc for example, when I log back on via the Launcher, will my character have done that wc and still be where I left her?

I get the impression you are saying I cant do that at all - if that's the case, what if I don't like Steam once I have transferred over?

Thanks. (sorry for being such a noob, I just need to get it right in my head)

Yes, that would be correct. As I see it, it shouldn't be any different to somebody playing on a mobile then logging into the same account using a computer.

I will state that adding RS to Steam is aimed at brand-new players rather than existing ones. Existing players should continue to use the official client, unless they really want trading cards or Steam Achievements.

Steam is basically a portal which advertises games, and has a "play now" button for each game you have purchased via their store. You can also link other games you have purchased from elsewhere by clicking "add non-Steam game".

All this does is add a "play now" button to your Steam portal.

When a game is tagged into Steam, things you do in game will be tracked by Steam so you can earn Steam achievements - these are mentioned in the news post. These achievements are much like the ones we have in game, except they'll exist in Steam only.

Essentially, there will be no change for the average user. This is just a method of Jagex advertising RuneScape to a wider audience in a very similar way to how it works with Twitch.
