This is the closest thing to pay to win we've ever seen implemented by Jagex, and here's why.

For people wondering why everyone is upset with the new "fresh start" game mode.

1. You have to create an entirely new account.
2. You have to purchase a new membership for this account (I heard it's also more for this membership than the main game, but I haven't confirmed that.)
3. The XP rates will be boosted 3x up to 4x in this "game mode".
4 Unique drops increased 20%.
5. Treasure hunter will be added to this game mode.
6. Boons will be added
7. Suspect many bot accounts added to this "game mode", inflating the account numbers for RuneScape. This will most likely ruin any attempt actual players give forth to actually competing for the reward items.
8. At the end of it, all accounts will be transfered (with the XP and items) to the main game. The new items rewarded based off high score positions will be only items allowed to be traded once while all unique drops and items gathered in game will be brought into the game, potentially putting the economy in a worse spot than it currently is.

Note: Expect high scores to be devastated and your personal grinds to be put down as these new accounts, who were boosted with 3 and 4x XP for months, to be added to the current game.

Conclusion: A lot of people see this as a sale of XP and items at boosted rates. The devastation (even further than it is right now) of all the hours they put into this game because their position in the high scores will be competed against by the closest method of "pay to win" than we've ever seen in RuneScape before.

Lastly, a lot of the items you farm, harvest or obtain for gold making methods will likely become more profitable while this event is going on, then drop to record lows when this event is over. A consequence a lot of players don't welcome.

(1) Jagex doesn't expect most existing players will engage in FSW. So it is all good for them to take care of the huge number of new and lapsed players in this event.

(2) Almost nobody think new and lapsed players starting afresh can do anything to meaningful item prices in 4 months. If the influx of new and lapsed players are that big, Jagex will be laughing to the bank the way they have never been in 21 years.

(3) Hiscores are only for show, especially in a 4 months event. Nobody is going to win anything like $20,000 real money or life time Runesape membership anyway.

(4) Regular RS3 and OSRS are always pay to win with bond anyway. We can even buy tbows and FSOA with bonds. Pay to win is less a problem in FSW because whoever want to pay to win can do it in the actual game without going through FSW anyway.

(5) The huge number of lapsed players asked for the new account thing.

Exactly.

Love how ppl are overthinking this key point that these arent aimed at the existing players but new ones.

I mean theres a reason why this is happening during the 300m account event.

Where did they say they didn't expect existing players to engage? I'm pretty sure

"'Fresh Start Worlds', a special limited-time game mode – and your chance to break new ground all over again!"

Means this is directed right at existing players

Nope, this is happening during an event that loads of new players signed up for the game.

Thus this is mostly aimed at those newer players.

If existing ones want to partake, they can but have to accept the rules that even the new players are going to have to abide by.

Read my thread on what Mod Jack wrote please. You are also taking my post fully out of context when I wrote they don't expect MOST existing players to engage in FSW, just as Mod Jack told the Reddit user who took his comment out of context.

Some existing players will play FSW, I may too, but not MOST of existing players will play FSW just as not MOST of existing OSRS players play GIM or Leagues or DMM.
