"Following the events of the Fort Forinthry: Murder on the Border, the Fort is facing a growing threat of an unexplained horde of undead wandering the perimeter. RuneScape players will join forces with their new Slayer Master, The Raptor, to vanquish the horde and investigate where this brand-new type of enemy is coming from. "Unwelcome Guests" will give players their first encounter with the villainous necromancer, Zemouregal, whose role in the story will be explained in coming updates. Fort Forinthry: Unwelcome Guests introduces four brand-new slayer creatures, including the Fetid Zombie, Bound Skeleton, Risen Ghost, and Armored Phantom. Players that conquer these new fiends will earn Slayer Trophies, which provide increasing rewards, buffs, and a rare drop of a new two-handed magic ability. As with all Fort Forinthry updates, the Construction skill will play a vital role in continuing the story. Players will build the Guardhouse, which will provide additional buffs for the Slayer skill, which include additional damage bonuses and higher spawn rates for Elite monsters."

Very interesting slayer updates coming next week. Seemingly we see the Phantom of RS3 joining the growing list of Jagex undead.

Looks like you were spot on with the Fort getting barracks! The expansion sounds much more useful than the kitchen was. Extra damage and more elite monsters on Slayer tasks is just excellent.

Very exciting that there’s a 2h magic ability drop to go after with these new Slayer monsters. Especially because I’m not very good at bossing. It does make me wonder how accessible these new monsters will be. Murder on the Border for example wasn’t super dependent on heavy requirements, but if the ability isn’t going to feature a negative trade off of some kind (perhaps it will discourage tick manipulation through 4taa following the imminent Staff of Armadyl nerf?) it will probably be locked behind a high Slayer level. This is interesting, because this quest series hasn’t really needed the player the be well acquainted with the game’s lore to this point. Things appear to be heating up!

The “trophies” seemingly make it sound like players need to kill all of the new monsters before the ability becomes available. Considering this may be the first “good” Slayer-sourced ability (Scare Tactics is a bit underwhelming.) - having to work toward the drop in some capacity makes sense.

There’s my “Z.” ;)

"You’ll have to be a member to participate in this content, and have completed both prior quests and have level 10 Slayer and level 50 Construction. Construction is set to, once again, be vital for the completion of Fort Forthinry content, and to continue the story. "

Interestingly we will need 50 Construction but only 10 slayer for the new content.

Seems like very accessible for all kind of players. I'll guess we probably need high slayer to get the new magic codex, perhaps from the phantoms.

Raptor is there to help us. Perhaps he can tank the mobs. Maybe there is a new mechanics some where down the line too, like in EGW where we get NPCs joining force with us and new waves of bosses and their minions coming one group at a time. Zemouregal may be the first, then we see other necromancers, and eventually the final boss, maybe Xau-Tak next year.

50 Construction is when it starts getting a little substantially expensive to train a little bit. If that's what you need for the Tier 1 Guardhouse, perhaps we don't yet know what the final tier perk is. It's also very high for a T1 building, so I would assume that like the Command Center this is going to be another building you need the have mastered Construction in order to fully trick out your Guardhouse.

Maybe it goes like this:

> T1 (50 construction): bonus damage on assigned monsters (stacks with Slayer helm, I would assume.)
> T2 (75-85? Construction): greater chance for Elites to spawn.
> T3 (99 Construction): ??? (better odds for unique items? Ability to ask Raptor to extend or shorten task length? Trophies from the new monsters are more common specifically?)

---

If the pressies are right about Raptor just becoming yet another Slayer Master, perhaps his special challenge plays like a defence map in a tactical RPG kinda, where we have to complete the slayer task inside Fort Forinthry alongside our new soldiers as the mobs breach the walls?

I have a feeling Zemouregal is our big bad for this specific story arc, but maybe this special challenge involves all of the new slayer monsters scaled to level? Or if it's supposed to be an entry level Slayer challenge (I mean, 10 Slayer, wow that's pretty easy to get.) Maybe the rewards from the challenge are incremental as the player gains more experience in Slayer?

Xau-Tak or no, this sounds like genuinely fun content.

Guardhouse only provides buffs like the other buildings. The higher their tiers, the higher the buffs. They aren't hard requirements for whatever skills. Whether we can attack whatever slayer mobs depends on our character stats, not the guardhouse.

Like EGW, I think we may have a skilling wave. Another skilling boss like Creosus perhaps.

OK. We know we are getting plenty of new slayer mobs to fight in our Player Owned Fort, but where will the battleground be?

I won't think they will just spawn on the surface of the Fort as they will interfere with players skilling and chilling there. So the more logical location is a hidden crypt underground.

Well, well, well... where do you think is the most suspicious hidden crypt or underground dungeon?

I reckon the mobs will attack the walls and we'll have to repair them. I feel like they need to do something to keep the content engaging, not another permeant unlock 'set and forget'.

PS: good work finding that article, not sure how you do it! but it is appreciated.

Definitely not permanent unlock. They told us about the Slayer Trophies already:

"If you manage to conquer these new enemies, you will earn
Slayer Trophies which will provide increasing rewards, buffs
, and a rare drop of a new two-handed magic ability. "

Hey! Jagex got a newspost up about this update pretty promptly after the livestream ended for once! This is more like it.

---

The Guardhouse is set to be my favorite building in the entire Fort, and I like a handful of those. All of the buffs presented are pretty satisfying, but I do have concerns about the order of unlocking.

Increased chance of Ushabti capture for T2 is certainly a good global buff, but it's not nearly as accessible as the T3 buff of having Ultimate abilities potentially instakill slayer targets. Not only will you need a decently high Construction level, but you'll also need to have mastered Slayer to even take advantage of the increased capture rate because otherwise you won't have access to the Sunken Pyramid. Maybe they should swap this with a reduced damage increase for nearly-defeated foes from the T3 Guardhouse? I'm worried that the T2 building isn't relevant enough for newer players chronologically to invest in as soon as they are able.

---

The new ability being introduced is Greater Sonic Wave (which has had its icon played with in recent weeks in game.)

I don't have the specifics on what the ability does, but it seems to share a cool down with Greater Concentrated Blast and is focused on promoting staff-camping (avoiding SwitchScape.)

In the Twitch chat, this brought about mixed reactions. Many players didn't seem to care for that, probably because they are skilled enough to use 4taa magic, or perhaps because they had panic sold their FSOA in lieu of the upcoming nerf - or perhaps the players that view SwitchScape as a measure of skill rather than a bug in the system. Of course, other players who detested SwitchScape did seem to be happy.

Oh, they added the ability to the newspost after they didn't tell us what it did on stream. Alright.

Early returns on the ability seem underwhelmed, but this is probably largely due to the fact that it will share a cool down with GConc. I wouldn't know though, and I'll still be pretty happy if/when I am able to get the drop personally.
