In the recent General Q&A on 7th July 2021, the Mods were asked a question about Hero items and whether they were a 'dead concept'.

Mod Osborne answered saying that he loved the idea of hero items - how they were ultra-rare, useful items that were also associated with a certain character in the game, and hinted that more could possibly be added in the future.

As a big fan of hero items, I wanted to make this thread for purpose of speculation and discussion. What new hero items do you think would be nice to be added in the game? What character do you think they might be associated with?

I think a hero item for Runecrafting would be super neat - mainly since I hate the skill so any new items giving a boost is something I'd really appreciate. For example something like "Wizard Korvak's Runecrafting Goggles" which gives a random boost to Runecrafting exp or provides random extra runes when training the skill would be cool.

What other ideas and speculation on future hero items does everyone else have?

Actually we already have Thok's Stick in the game. It can be added as a dinosaur bane physical weapon. Don't forget the new Lanieka's Spear. Dead concept? Certainly not.

How illogical are Signature Heroes without signature weapons? If there are going to be "hero items", there aren't anything more appropriate than Ariane's Staff, Ozan's Bow or Raptor's Sword and Shield. Throw in Hannibus's Lance too.

I want to comment they're sort of like "legendary" items in other games. They seem to be almost as powerful as elder artefacts. Perhaps they will be explained as having their heroic effects from the elder artefacts, like Hazelmere somehow drew on a small portion of elder artefact power to enchant a normal diamond ring, small enough not to alert the dragonkin.

No. Level 70 "legendary" items are definitely not as good as level 90 common quality items in most games with such "legendary" items classification system. No heroes, not even the World Guardian should be able to have a "hero" items as powerful as an Elder Artifact. It just doesn't make sense mortals can create elder artifacts and if they just got it from gods then those items should be god items, not hero items.

Ozan can own a Seren's Godbow but even so it is just not right to rename it Ozan's Godbow. Heroes are supposed to be lower tier NPCs than gods so are the corresponding "hero" items.

Well dilbert, that's why we need a hero item quest to explain how the hero items got so powerful.

No. Heroes items aren't powerful. As I mentioned we have Lanieaka's Spear which is a T82 weapon. It is far below the BiS spear, let alone as powerful as an elder artifact.

Possibilities for where new hero items can show up:

GWD3. Some sort of hero item is introduced when the dungeon is complete. Perhaps "Azzanadra's brooch". Pocket slot item he manages to create before he gets fridged (not death, perhaps sent to erebus) and can be the first hero item that is built from parts scattered across the dungeon and needs to be reassembled to create the first hero item in pocket slot, and the first hero item rewarded in pieces instead of straight up a full item. Possible effect is changing relics has no chronote cost when wielding the azzanadra's brooch and can be done anywhere not just banks, same effect as brooch of the gods and chance to summon imbue you with shadow anima, and higher drop rate of complete tomes and tetracompass pieces.

The next skill. The next skill could reward another hero item if gwd3 doesn't. No speculation here.

Minigame expansion. Perhaps a hero quiver slot item that enhances minigames and distractions and diversions, allowing players greater rate of thaler, specific minigame currency, enhanced meg reward/evil tree daily reset and adds a threshold to drop rates of anachronia totem pieces. The first hero item to be earned from minigames and second from distractions and diversions.

Since when was OP talking about
Signature Hero
items?

----

Now getting back on topic.

I too would love to see more
Hero
items. So far, they're clearly all non-combat items, i.e. no weapons or armours, and I'd love to keep it this way.

The only issue I have regarding a Runecrafting Hero item is that it won't be very safe taking it to the Abyss. If it were to become a thing, it'd need to have a special effect where it's 100% always kept on death. Perhaps another perk should be that no pouches are lost on death too, as these can be annoying to re-acquire after death.

It's clear there will be a Hero hatchet one day, but I'm surprised there's no Hero pickaxe yet given we've had the Mining rework relatively recently.

As for Hunter, perhaps there could be an enhanced version of the Yaktwee stick that gives a higher percentage boost and the chance of doubling loot.

Since when are Signature Heroes not heroes? Please note that Lanieaka and Thok aren't signature heroes and they have hero items I also talked abut and Jagex have implemented.

I've got a gnawing feeling that a pickaxe will be the next Hero item. Perhaps someday we'll be able to unearth a long-lost pick that belonged to King Alvis? He founded the dwarven Consortium, after all, so perhaps he dabbled with his own Mining on the side? After really, if we ever get a Hero pickaxe, it'll almost certainly belong to some major dwarven figure or another.

Outside of tools, I feel like some sort of Hero cape would also be feasible. Just like how Hazelmere's is an excellent all-purpose ring, there would definitely be room for an all-purpose cape that would compete with the Max/Completionist capes in term of power. I'm not sure if there's any particular hero that leaps to mind; maybe the original Lady Ithell could have woven it?
