We were told summer 2020 for this update, but by the looks of it, summer is going to end with another DXP that is 100% pointless to me. DXP should be held once maybe twice, not 4-6 times a year, that's just ridiculous.

We're 21 days into summer, ergo there are 67 days left for them to release this content in the time frame they specified a while ago.

However, these time frames tend to get pushed back at the best of times, let alone when J-mods are not working in the office. There are likely to be further delays, but that doesn't mean the project is cancelled. After all, it's best to wait for a good working product than to get a rushed buggy product a few weeks earlier.

I believe gwd3 is on the backburner but there was art made for it.

Quest first and then the follow-up story/lore, then gwd3 i believe.

GWD3 is definitely not in the backburner although it is obvious it will come after Desperate Measures because of its dependencies of lore. When you see art work, it means it won't be long when we see the content. Remember Anachronia? They showed the art works and then the entire continent came out 2 months later.

As of last Tuesday's stream (a summary of which can be found at https://old.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/hn34bs/tldw_488_runescape_updates/), GWD3 is among the few projects currently in "active" (ie. past the planning/design stage) development that didn't have a release date (alongside new Alchemical Onyx gear with an TBA release window and a mystery "12th anniversary of a piece of content" update that's due in September), and I don't think they've given one in the week and a half that's passed since that stream.

I would expect it to miss its original Summer release window (as most long-term Jagex announcements usually do, let's be honest), but I wouldn't be surprised to see it as the centerpiece of their November releases. Their new "Monthly Cadence" initiative intends to get at least one piece of new content out the door every month, October will probably be centered around Hallow'een (and usually doesn't have big non-seasonal releases anyway between RuneFest and Hallow'een; RF is canceled this year due to the pandemic but the last we heard from Jagex on the subject is that they're looking at virtual alternatives), and if this new Alchemical Onyx gear is remotely combat focused it wouldn't be too surprising for Jagex to plan on shipping it around the same time as GWD3.

I absolutely doubt if the new Alchemical Onyx update is focused on a specific aspect, let alone combat. It is easily seen from the first batch of Alchemical Onyx items all kinds of activities are being considered in the making of the Onyx jewelry.

You also overlooked that big updates can be seasonal too. For instance, Till Death do them apart was a big update to the main stories of Gielinor and it came in the form of a Halloween event.

Besides, don't forget the focused August update is not announced. It can be anything including GWD3 and Alchemical Onyx too. We can't rule out these updates being related to the "12th year anniversary of a piece of content." in September either.

Hopefully we never get it move on to something new gwd stinks

Perhaps it is just you but most of us love to see GWD3 because it is not just about a dungeon and bossing, there are lore and secrets hidden there too. We should get a clearer picture after Desperate Measures. :)
